El Chante Surf House — Hotel in Cóbano

El Chante is my absolute favorite place in Santa Teresa, because of its location, the lovely people running it and the vibe.

The location The house is far away from the crowds, the noise and traffic of santa teresa at a perfect beach (playa hermosa) for surfing. It takes 10min by car to get to ST which was no problem at all, just get a 4x4 or an ATV to get around and you will be fine.

The crew/ family Fernando (owner) will treat you like a friend, he is just amazing. He also is an incredible surf instructor and trust me, I had a lot of surf lessons before. In a very short time he knew exactly where my pain points are and what I had to improve. Being intermediate and easily scared of bigger sets, he showed me how to become more comfy and secure in the water. Honestly, there are even locals from San Jose bringing his kids to him, because he is such a good teacher.

The house/ place The room is very comfy, clean, modern, nice. We loved it! There is a kitchen upstairs and downstairs. The pool is super clean and beautiful too, especially on a hot day just perfect to jump in. They have a yoga/ workout deck etc. All you need tbh. Also the place gets light and sun, which helps to dry your stuff after surf.

The vibe We met the most lovely people at El Chante whom made us feel home. L.A. was our daily sunshine ❤️ We even extended our stay because it was just too nice!

I just had the pleasure of completing my stay at El Chante Surf House, and it was a wonderful experience. The staff were exceedingly helpful in answering all of my questions via Whatsapp, and were very responsive overall. They booked my airport transfer from Cobano, and the driver was waiting when I landed.

The rooms are very tastefully decorated and appointed, and the property overall is beautiful. While I didn't partake in any of the nearby restaurants, I picked up some groceries from the nearby supermarket, and cooked in the shared eat-in kitchen. The view from the latter is simply stunning, with its floor to ceiling windows.

The surf house is a relatively short eight minute walk to Playa Hermosa, home to some of the most consistent beach breaks in Costa Rica. There is also a point break on the north side of the beach with a small channel to help you get to the line up. The better waves are situated a few hundred feet/meters to the south, and you won't have to deal with the rocks comprise the point.

Breakfast is included, and was absolutely delicious -- toast, eggs, granola, tropical fruits, coffee, and homemade banana bread baked by a sweet lady who lives nearby.

The very relaxed vibe of the surf house and neigbhorhood is a great contrast to the more lively atmosphere that you will find in Santa Teresa. I love both, and am looking forward to my next surf trip...

El Chante is home far from home. The staff, volunteers, Fernando and the instructors are all amazing people who will make your stay special. The house is super nice, with a swimming pool, nice hammocks to chill and read by the pool, a cute garden and an area where you can hang out and just meet new amazing people! El Chante has the best position ever: 5 minutes away from the most beautiful beach of the area (playa hermosa), with crazy sunsets and GREEEAT waves!! it's also close to nice restaurants and cafés, but still in a very peaceful and quiet area which will make your stay very peaceful. at the same time, it's also close to Santa Teresa town, 10 mins away by ATV, car, taxi... you will meet amazing people who enjoy life and good vibes. Instructors are great and volunteers will welcome you as if they have known you forever! Thanks Fernando, Cesar, Sierra and Oceane!
