From fabulous viewpoints food, ocean breezes & horses it's like heaven! Tango Mar Hotel was a great place for us to stay. It's all a matter of what you are looking for. We stayed there 3 nights. It was an adventure getting there, but worth it.
Breakfast was very good. I think the breakfast at the Doubletree Cariari by Hilton in San Jose was excellent, but it satisfied our hunger. Each morning you were delighted with different juices and the chef made whatever you desired. Dinner was fantastic-ask for the volcano drink :)! Each night we had something different. Our travel arrangements included breakfast each morning and dinner was on us. The prices were very reasonable and selection was great for any taste.
On my wife's birthday we had a private table overlooking the ocean absolutely spectacular (we didn't request anything special) they just made it happen-they even sang for her in English and Spanish!
We stayed in the Tropical suites (lot's of steps-we needed that with all the great food, but if you have trouble with steps ask for a lower villa). We had our semi private infinity pool that was so so nice, but the A/C went out they couldn't get it fixed so they upgraded us to the Tiki Suites which consists of individual circular type rooms with small above ground decks and car port for the rental, but it wasn't as private as the previous room . We dipped in the main pool and spent time by the ocean side. Had a long horseback ride and if you go to Tango Mar and get a massage ask for "Jesse" omg. I need a separate review just for her. I've had many in different places and she is the best!
Not many people speak English, but that's not a problem-we enjoyed that! We did a lot of walking and that was good-it was hot-well 7 degrees north of the equator it's always hot. We usually like to go out dancing and we missed the only night they had some dancing. it's very private and if your go there for a honeymoon you will get lots of private time.
Get ready for an adventure if you drive there, get some local currency for the tolls about 4 and go early to make sure you catch the ferry-omg that was great it was a party on the ferry and they had drinks and food for purchase. And make sure you get a 4 wheel drive just to be on the safe side; More about our car rental and the ferry in another review.
Also the Garmin GPS we got with our Adobe rental car works well, but it only finds places not addresses. So make sure you get a phone. We had a phone and bought a SIM card in Walmart in San Jose before we left. Oh by the way Alcohol-Walmart in San Jose gave alcoholic samples-I...
Read moreVery scenic, fantastic beach and beach views . The pools and the pool areas were nice. Pool area amenities ( extra towels, water coolers, assistance with chairs) were non existent. This Property has amazing potential to be a first class resort but it needs a total upgrade. The owner Hilda and her husband are very nice and accommodating and seem to enjoy their interaction with the hotel guests. The hotel staff, especially the bar and dining staff, are very hard working and responsive to the needs of the resorts guests. However, the entire resort is beyond dated. The rooms need to be completely remodeled and upgraded. The mattress felt like something I slept on 20 years ago. The linens were a total disgrace. The bedspread was worn and looked dirty. The sheets were paper thin. There is a time warp jacuzzi tub in the middle of the room that is pretty much useless. The shower door in the room was missing, so every shade in the room had to remain closed to obtain any sort of privacy. The refrigerator in the mini bar was rusty and so old the white exterior had turned drab yellow. The room safe was completely rusted and used a removeable deadbolt locking mechanism unlike most electronic safes that are pretty much standard in the industry. The exercise room or gym was comprised of a bunch of dated and worn out machines. The food was and drinks were good. The alcohol list was pretty much on the low end across the board and very limited. In the end, the property setting was the real vacation saver. The beach area, the hammocks, and views from the pools are fantastic. However, it seems that this resort is surviving in a time warp. It may also be that financially it's in a pinch which is what it looks like. If not, then it's time for a big capital infusion to get this place to where it needs to be. Currently, it's not a resort that I could recommend to a...
Read moreApologies for the delay in posting this review. But we had a great 3 night stay back in Feb. We had a Tropical Suite, which was perfectly adequate. I would say the decor is a little tired. It was very clean. I can’t say we took advantage of the large jacuzzi bath, which does take up a lot of room? |But we loved the fact we could see & hear the ocean from our room. And could enjoy the birds & monkeys in the nearby trees. |The host Heidi was very welcoming, & came round each table in the restaurant during evening service. All of the staff were lovely, friendly & helpful. |We enjoyed sitting at the bar for pre dinner drinks, the cocktails are amazing, such a wide choice. |I think our favourite thing on the menu was the Caesar salad, which was prepared at your table with great aplomb!! |Breakfasts taken on the terrace were also good, with a acceptable choice of selection. And eggs cooked to order. |Wasn’t terrible impressed with the coffee, compared to other places on our stay to CR. |I must also mention the grounds of the hotel. Lovely to walk around & explore. And as other reviewers have mentioned, so much wildlife & birdlife to see, including the beautiful scarlet macaws! |The beach is lovely to walk on, to stretch your legs. And walking to the view point very worthwhile. |Took of advantage of the laundry service too, which was very good, & super quick.|We had a lovely stay, & would definitely come back, &...
