Rancho Matambu Playa Grande — Hotel in Cabo Velas

We were staying in Rancho Matambu for one month. When we came there, it was gorgeous place. I felt it as a hidden jam comparing with busy Tamarindo. Michael is amazing host and be met us and picked up to the rancho. He really made everything for our safe and pleasant stay.

After 2 weeks of our stay, Michael sold out the rancho. Please pay attention that the previous reviews are about this host and he is amazing. I would like to share with you current situation.

During 2 weeks none came to clean the territory or pool. When we requested to throw the trash at least, we received the answer that it’s a budget place and we could do it by ourselves. New owner never came and manager was extremely rude with us. Additionally, one day we came back and our room was unlocked. So you should take care of your personal stuff as it could be stolen.

Additionally, we had a huge concern about safety, because the different people have access to the property....

Newly remodeled lodge located in Huacas, 15min from Playa Grande and 20min from Tamarindo. We stayed in a 2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom apartment, initially for 2 nights and ended up staying for 4 nights. Fully equipped kitchen and a beautiful teak dining table (omg). The apartment is facing west so you will experience a lot of gorgeous sunset views (the light brings a warmth and comfortable vibe). Parking spot in the courtyard for our SUV. Patrick and Mina are a French couple that owns the lodge, they did their best to accomodate and help us: the right surf spot advice depending on the weather conditions, beach directions and access, Tamarindo bars and restaurants...

And they also offer boat trips: fishing, snorkeling, skurfing or surf spot access by boat... (we did it!)

I visit Costa Rica quite often and this is by far the best place I've stayed at. My home away from home, which is a rare thing to find while traveling. The location is perfect, with a very short driving distance to my favourite beaches (Playa Grande, Playa Conchal , Playa Tamarindo, Playa Avellanus) and not to mention some national parks. A quick 10 minute walk to a couple of supermarkets and local restaurants. This is my second time staying at Rancho Matambu, both times in different rooms, which were very comfortable and very clean. The outdoor kitchen has everything you need and the pool just amazing especially during sunset. The host is very responsive and is very helpful.
