My husband and I stayed at Hotel Quelitales for two nights at the end of June 2024. We booked the Reinitas suite which had a nice view of the waterfall on property. The room was complete with wifi, indoor/outdoor shower, hot water, safe, small fridge, coffee maker, desk area and sitting areas both inside and out. The only slight issue that I found with the room was the dim lighting in the suite but we were able to manage with no problems. I guess it kind of goes with the rainforest cabin setting. And this magical hotel is for sure in the rainforest. We saw so many birds and hummingbirds right on property. There are hummingbird feeders set up near the waterfall and feeders at the restaurant as well. We saw 11 different types of hummingbirds. It was awesome! We also did a birding tour with the fantastic tour guide Teylor which was a fun day. We went off property to La Marta Reserve where we were able to see the lovely Snowcap hummingbird which is a lifer for me. And after a long day on the bird tour we were treated to a delicious dinner at the hotel restaurant. My husband had the tropical chicken and I had the mushroom chicken which was delicious. During our two night stay we were the only guests on property so it was really magical to have the property to ourselves to explore. And after exploring we would just relax at the waterfall and enjoy the peaceful view. So if you like viewing nature in a tranquil setting do not hesitate to book Hotel Quelitales. It was a real pleasure to stay here and get lost in nature. Thank you to the staff for making our stay delightful.|Also, We did not have our own transportation so the hotel arranged for us to be picked up from the airport. Our driver Jimmy Roman was a pleasure to talk to and I would recommend him if you also need...
Read moreEverything you read in the reviews is true. This is a magical place. Jose Alvarez and his team treat you like family and offer a wonderful experience. |Although this has become the birding hotspot in Costa Rica, I think everyone can enjoy this beautiful hotel and area. That said, we came for the birds and boy oh boy, they deliver. I’m over 50 “lifers” birds since arriving with more time to go! As I write this we just finished a delicious pancake breakfast with views over the garden from the breakfast table. I got 3 life birds from my breakfast table!|The accommodations are a little rustic but offer everything you need. Individual bungalows with comfortable beds with indoor and outdoor showers. All offer views over the forest and it’s possible to bird watch from bed!|We had an incident with a rental car one hour away in a remote area. One call to Jose and he hopped in his SUV with two employees ( Carlos and Carlito) and they came right over to us to help. This is their dedication to service. Jose then called the rental company and ironed out all the details. Life savers!|We hired another employee Teylor as a birding guide one day and he was incredible. He knows his stuff and brought us to the best places in the area. The owner, Jose is also a birding enthusiast and helped us see the rare Scaled Antpitta, among others. The rest of the staff, including Anderson were terrific. All speak English are all are very friendly. As a luxury hotelier for 30 years, I can tell you that these are the type of employees every hotel wants and needs. |Great hotel, great staff, great restaurant and...
Read moreThis was the first place we stayed at in costa rica. It was WONDERFUL. Our room was perfect. Quite large and looked out onto a pond. Comfortable beds. My travel buddy is a birder and conservationalist and I am a general nature lover. It was paradise. The food in the restaurant was DELICIOUS. There are thoughtfully planned, bird attracting gardens and the owner has been careful to not overbuild, maintaining the integrity of the surrounding nature and breathtaking views. When we were there, they were constructing a covered area by the waterfall, would be a beautiful setting for a small wedding or yoga retreat! Also, the little communities that surround lake Cachi are very pleasant to explore.
We drove from the San Jose Airport in a 2 wheel car (but it was the dry season) and navigated there easily. From here we went south to Manuel Antonio.... if you decide to travel south on your trip.... DO NOT TAKE THE SCENIC ROUTE. It added 5 hours on a dirt road to our journey. The suggested route seems longer and a little out of the way but trust me, you'll get...
