We spent eight days in Costa Rica. While we enjoyed the ziplines and rafts and the tourist areas, the drive to Manuel Antonio seeing resort after resort did me in.||||We stayed at Paraiso Carlisa our last night in Costa Rica and our only regret was not staying longer. Before staying here read their website, it is off the beaten path. Make sure this is the place for you (I would recommend it to anyone, but if your looking for a McDonalds your looking at the wrong place:). There is a small local cantina about 8km from this place in a small village, otherwise its a good 45 minutes to civilization. ||||If you want to see wildlife this is the place to be. We saw more wildlife in 24 hours at Paraiso Carlisa than we did all week in Arenal, Jaco and Manuel Antonio park.||||We stayed on the off season and were the only guests at the time. Our villa was huge and included a bedroom, separate bath and living/dining room. The room included cable, decent internet access, small fridge and AC. The rooms were clean and well maintained. Our room had a patio with a hammock and in the morning we sat out and watched a troop of monkeys.||||The restaurant was very good and I thought was well priced for the caliber. They buy a lot of their food locally. We ate out on the lodge porch for both dinner and breakfast and watched the macaws and other birds. ||||We declined the horse back tour of the waterfalls because we were on the last leg of our vacation and were done. However we did get a free personal tour of the grounds and when we saw the waterfall, we regretted not taking them up on the offer. The staff was so kind and very knowledgeable about the area. ||||We drove a Toyata Yaris up here and our TWD car did fine, we had to take it a little slower. If you have driven American gravel roads they were comparable to spring. We had no issues driving it, I posted some photos of the road. The views on the drive up is worth the trip alone.||||We would recommend...
Read moreAs the latest review is from last year I felt like writing about this hotel. It is a special place to stay for a couple of nights. |We booked this hotel because most other hotels in the area of Manuel Antonio were fully booked. It takes approximately 1,5 hour drive to Quepos to enter Manuel Antionio National Parc. The hotel has a animal shelter and is surrounded by the beautiful rainforest. You can do a mini hike through the rainforest around the hotel, which is great! You see lots of animals, captured for their recovery. (Cayman, sloth, monkeys and they have a butterfly garden too).|The rooms/cabins are spacious but a bit outdated. |As the place is very isolated -it takes a 45 minute drive on a dirt road before reaching the hotel- they serve a (3 course) plain dinner for 15 dollar. Breakfast is included.||The service could be much better. We got very poor information at our arrival. We had to find out ourself breakfast time, what the hotel is doing for the anmials. We didn't get any information about tours they offer, etc. Quite essential information I would say.|Don't expect a cool jump in the pool. The pool wasn't cleaned for ages and looked very dirty. |It's a beautiful place but they can definitely make more out of it when they give more genuine attention to their guests. Nevertheless I reccommended the place if you feel like being...
Read moreA 17km dirt road separated this hidden gem from the main road between Jaco and Manuel Antonio and is a must stay! We stayed for two nights at this eco hotel, which was a peaceful and restful time. ||||The day of arrival, we drove down from the Arenal area, along the pacific coast side to this hotel. Finding this hotel at the end of this dirty road is an experience by itself. The staff is friendly, serves you during the buffet dinner and offers you advice on what to in the hotel area or surroundings. Per their advice, we took a 1hr hike to the waterfall area, which a nice hike with great views and reward to reach the water. The hotel also offers to do this hike on horseback, which will save you a long hike up a hill. The rest of the time we explored the coast area between Jaco and Manuel Antonio. ||||We stayed in cabana 7, a free standing building with bedroom, large living room, a surprisingly good bathroom and large terrace overlooking a stunning forest. The bed was comfy and comes with a mosquito net, which can take some time to get used to. In all, a very nice eco lodge with animals and a great pool. Would...
