Hotel Hacienda El Rodeo — Hotel in Colón

We have been searching for a place within an hour of San Jose’s airport and on our third go believe we have found it – Hacienda El Rodeo. About an hour southwest of the airport for those who like a very rural experience this is a great find.||||Guillermo is the 5th generation to live in, own and operate the Hacienda. The old mansion on the property, surrounded by expansive rural country, is over 100 years old.||||On the drive to the el Rodeo one passes coffee plantations and likely will see monkeys swinging in the trees.||||The Hacienda has a beautiful porch with comfy rocking chairs from where one can see the setting sun. There is a nice pool (although at times it is rented out for family events). Breakfast was excellent – lots of fresh fruit, empanadas, plantains, cheese and eggs. ||||We ate dinner at the Hacienda both nights – very nicely presented, tasty and filling.||||Beyond Guillermo most of the staff spoke little English but their smiles went a long way.||||We very much recommend staying at Hacienda El Rodeo if looking for a place with character at a reasonable price other than an airport hotel. If you want the feeling and flavour of a 19th century Hacienda 30 minutes from Escazu and Santana visit Hacienda El Rodeo. At our arrival we were greeted by Guillermo and Yancy with royal treatment: "would you like some wine, a drink, or maybe coffee?" later on, "what would you like for dinner, steak chicken? We also have fresh fish? "You just can't get that service level on a hotel chain or franchise.||||The silence and serenity at night takes you back 100 years from now and you probably feel as relaxed and calm as it was back then.||During the day you can go hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, just read a book on the corridor or snooze by the pool. My husband decided to do a Horse Ride in the morning before we live to airport and then he booked this place. Simply a wonderful surprise! The oldest farm in Colon with wonderful accommodations! We were in four and we could sleep in one room with 2 big and comfortable beds! The owner and the staff are wonderful.. Made us feel at home. The breakfast is great and the place is very calm!
