My husband and I chose these more rustic accommodations over the nearby large resort(s) and were happy we did so. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is it's not for everyone. It was a very "in nature", homey experience. A friendly Belgian couple runs the place and are very welcoming. They even shared some of their homemade beer with us! They are happy to advise you what to do in the area, etc. My tip: make sure to ask questions and get clear instructions. For instance, they gave us driving directions to a waterfall experience but we didn't have a 4-wheel drive, which was necessary for the road (we didn't think to ask and they didn't volunteer the info). ||||The grounds are beautiful and right in the jungle. This means LOTS of bugs, especially at night. Bring bug spray! There are rooms in the main hacienda area, but my husband and I stayed in an adorable converted shipping container that's down the hill (be prepared to walk). We loved the privacy and the semi-outdoor shower but there is no air con and no WiFi (WiFi at the main house only). There's nothing to do at night except chat, play games, read, and drink beers. (There's a small fridge in the room.) ||||Two amazing Aussie Cattle dogs kept us company our entire stay -- Blue and Lily. In fact, the dogs slept on our deck overnight one evening and "protected" us. There's also a pet parrot. ||||Breakfast is included and it's absolutely delicious. Coffee in the rooms.||||There is a swimming pool, but it's very rustic (and unheated), so it's more to use to cool off than a "lay by the pool all day" type of pool.||||The Rincon de la Vieja park is nearby (a short drive), as well as a number of waterfall excursions. Read moreWe came across spontaneously this lovely location, it was about to get dark and we wanted to find a location to sleep and started following a small sign on the street. Absolutely amazing! A small hidden treasure. The location is super, if you are planning to do the trip up to the Rincon National Park (which was one of our favourites during our whole trip to CR) its roughly 20min with the car, also perfect if you want to do the hot springs. Maureen and Charlie are lovely people, they really took good care of us, we felt so welcome and at home. Their place is clean, the breakfast is delicious, i can only talk about just good think. The garden is just stunning, they have a small pool which involves river water. There is a special balance between humans and nature in this place. We owe them a huge thank you. We got many useful information from Charlie. He grows his own pepper and lime, ask him for a taste, its fantastic. We will for...
Read moreWe had a wonderful stay here for 4 nights in a container cabin. The owners were friendly and we enjoyed our meals. The dinner was very good. Some of the facilities are aging but nothing that detracted from our stay. Very charming and comfortable facilities, grounds and atmosphere. Our only suggestion would be for a signup sheet for meals posted at the reception area.
The sounds of the forest are all you can hear; earplugs were helpful for us at night since we were not used to it. There was no a/c or Wi-Fi in the cabins, but we did not need it as we were outside during the day.
We really enjoyed the experience, and would highly recommend if you are visiting Rincón de la Vieja and la Leona falls. The location was perfect with a rental car, and we’re glad we stayed here instead of the expensive adventure hotel nearby (Guachipelin?). We had a high clearance vehicle for the area which was nice to have for...
