Upon our arrival, the hotel was completely silent. There was not another person in sight, besides the man at the front desk and the security that had let us through the gate. We immediately noticed the cubby system for the room keys directly behind the receptionist. For one, most every key was sitting in its respective cubby hole. But more importantly, there was no security for the keys. It was an open system with no covering or lock system over the keys. Anyone could walk behind the front desk and take a room key, and let themselves into any room. The receptionist was friendly enough, checked us in and told us our room was on the second floor. There was no elevator, so we carried our bags up the stairs ourselves. I have had six knee surgeries and a shoulder reconstruction, so this was not easy for me. Upon entering our room, the first thing we noticed was the door to the room did not close all the way and there was a large gap between the door and the doorjamb. There were water stains all over the door and it was very warped. We overlooked the door and started to settle in. We started by turning on the very small AC as it was off and the windows were left open. The screens over the open windows were broken apart with many holes in one and the other only partially attached on the sides. So not only was the room very hot, it was full of mosquitos. In a country that is known to have illness and disease spread by biting insects, mosquitos in particular, this is absolutely unacceptable. I understand that it is common practice to minimize energy by reducing air conditioning, but not like this. The sign on the door to the bathroom asked us to keep the bathroom door closed so the room would stay cool. The room cooled a tiny bit, but it was still quite uncomfortable. || We went to lock up our valuables and noticed the safe was locked, so my boyfriend went down and asked for the key to the safe. He was told that they didn’t have any guest keys to the safes on the property, as they were all lost. The only keys for the safes were a couple of back up keys, and guess where they were? Out in the open, in one of the cubby holes near all the regular room keys. So even if we did have a key for the safe, someone could just walk behind the receptionist desk, grab the back-up key to the room and the safe, and then steal everything important with no trouble. My boyfriend came back to the room and attempted to lock us in for the night. When we went to lock the door...
Read moreThe resort was very clean and felt safe. It is a little older but not run down. We were there for a week so we really got a feel for the location. 😁Stephanie at the front desk was amazing!!! She was the first to greet us and we usually saw her in the evening when we got back. She always asked about our day and gave excellent food recommendations. 🧐 If you are going with RCI, they have an on site concierge who will set up tours and such. Apparently, they have a rental car service that would have came and picked us up at the airport and dropped us off - that would have saved a lot of time, shuttling, and would have been so much more relaxing IF we would have known about it. Also regarding the concierge service, we were not offered to schedule anything in advance of our arrival which prohibited us from scheduling things prior to Tuesday. We ended up just doing our own thing and scheduling our own. 😃 Out room was very clean and housekeeping was great! They made our room up nicely everyday and all the linens were clean and comfortable to use. 😳 From reading the reviews, we were aware of the Thursday night parties they have at the resort and were mentally prepared for the loud music which we just joined the party. However, Friday morning they started with a dental convention and it took up a large part of the common areas of the resort and made us feel like we couldn’t use the resort. Then on Saturday night they had an exclusive party for the dental convention and pounded music late into the night which could be heard throughout the rooms. We had to be up early on Sunday and got a horrible nights rest. 👍🏼 The food was decent but there are some great restaurants in the area that I would recommend more. 💸 The casino is clean and the pit manager was very welcoming. It’s a great place to lose money 😂 🤲🏼 The spa is super clean and professional. We all enjoyed our spa treatments and the kiddo was able to do a kid’s spa special and she loved it! I tried the hydro massage and it was different. Their prices were fair and...
Read moreAs per other reviews, this place is like a diamond in the rough. Dated and in need of updated furniture but the staff more than makes up for it with their friendly service, smiles, small talk, food (AMAZING!!), and views. Some things to note: there is some kind of pre-paid food ticket that is optional with your hotel stay. The place is reportedly loud Friday and Saturday nights with a live band and fun. We are heading out for the coast instead on Thursday due to accommodations paid for by my husband’s boss as a surprise for our anniversary. We would stay otherwise. They fold your dirty clothes if you leave them out. Yikes! Not used to that being from America although I appreciate the level of care here for their customers.
The place is extremely clean and gone over once a day from what I have seen. Pool could use some tiles and attention to the surrounding concrete but it is functional and just as fun. No clock in the bedroom felt odd to me. Snacks and drinks in the room were a nice touch. They have beautiful gardens and a space to listen and watch birds. Staff in the restaurant always made us feel at home and not weird for not knowing the menu. They could use an American menu if they would consider it. You also need to tell the staff you are done with your food and ready for the check because it is considered rude here in Costa Rica for them to ask you if you are done and for them to rush you. There is a Spa, tennis court, kiddie pool and gym with nice equipment. Location is awesome because you are close to several waterfalls with tours (better IMO in the rainy season because water volume makes the waterfalls so much more powerful), parks and even a butterfly place (Casa Alegria). I have included some pics of local places you can visit - waterfalls and butterfly gardens. Staff hooked us up with info on that. Catch the sunrise! Must see! I would definitely come back! Love...
