Hands down La Finca was the best part of our trip to Costa Rica. We came for an ATV tour and ended up falling in love. We were about 30 minutes early for our ATV ride and crossed paths with the owner of the resort. We had absolutely no idea we could stay on property, and he dropped what he was doing and gave us a tour of one of the empty villas. When we got back from our ATV tour, which was a family favorite, we had dinner at the resort, and it was amazing. The prices were reasonable, the atmosphere was so relaxing and all of the staff at the resort were just so nice. After dinner we booked a 2 night stay in the Villa Haliconia. I can't even begin to tell you how amazing it was. It has 2 terraces that overlook the horse pastures, each terrace had a hammock and a seating area. The main terrace also housed the open-air kitchen and dining room. The king bedroom was so gorgeous, with simple, yet elegant decorations. The beds were very comfortable, and I absolutely loved being able to open up the sliders and enjoy the beautiful Costa Rican weather. The bathroom in the king sweet was drool worthy. A nice big soaker tub and large shower. Again, being able to bathe with the windows open and enjoy the sounds of nature was like nothing I've ever experienced. The queen bedroom also had a twin sized bed and its own on suite bathroom. Again, beautifully decorated with comfortable bedding. The water pressure in the showers was great and the water was hot, a change from the airbnb we originally booked for our trip. The property at La Finca was beautiful, with a few nature trails we could enjoy, a stable that we had access to whenever we wanted, and a restaurant that was so good. Breakfast was free and it was so delicious. The pool area was gorgeous. Our son celebrated his 14th birthday while we were at La Finca and the wait staff made an exception and brought him our a brownie and ice cream desert during breakfast and even sang to him. It was very special and made his day. I could go on for forever, but I will end this by saying that our next visit to Costa Rica will definitely be at La...
Read moreLet me start by saying our stay was PERFECT!! I can’t say enough good things about LaFinca, from the accommodations, to the staff, to the food. Paradise! This place is a hidden gem! A little off the beaten path but SO WORTH IT. Only 30 minute drive to La Fortuna. Our cottage, Ilan Ilan, was very clean and spacious. We had a room with a separate kitchenette, large bathroom, and huge covered deck. We LOVED the covered deck. It had a beautiful hammock, chairs, and a table to eat at. Upon check in we were greeted by the sweetest person, Ronald. He spent SO much time with us showing us around, explaining the culture, cutting open coconuts for us to drink, helping us book activities. Ron went ABOVE and BEYOND for us! You can tell he really loves what he does! He speaks like 6 different languages! I looked forwad to seeing his smiling face everyday or have him take us on an expedition to find the macaws. 🦜 The restaurant was really good! Farm to table. Fresh! They serve breakfast and dinner. The menu was not huge, but everything we ate was very good and reasonably priced. We ate there everyday for 6 days! Dennis waited on us daily and he was such a delight! His big smile, attention to detail, such a sweetheart! There is so much to do on sight. We went horseback riding, rode ATV’s to the hot springs, and explored the property. It was beautiful. Danny (aka Antonio Banderas) our guide, he was awesome! He can spot monkeys or sloths in trees a mile away! We spent SO much time with him and it was such a pleasure! This family owned farm is very special with personal touches. Don’t hesitate to book LaFinca! It will not disappoint! After checking out, we went to finish our vacation staying at a high end hot springs resort closer to La Fortuna, $500+/night, and all we kept saying is, we wished we’d stayed at LaFinca! Anything would have been a disappointment after LaFinca. They set the...
Read moreWe stayed four nights in a casita and could not have been happier that we chose La Finca! Our room was a private casita with one large room, two beds, a bathroom, and a porch with chairs & a hammock and the most picturesque view. We stayed with our toddler and the staff were so kind and accommodating, from bringing a crib to the room (and providing darling linens) and being incredibly sweet to her whenever we were in common areas.
It was easy to find the property with the provided instructions and the property itself is stunning. We loved the freedom to explore the roads and paths cutting across the acreage as well as the access to the pool - there were a couple days that we didn't leave the property! Every bit of the complimentary breakfast was delicious and we were glad that we came back for dinner on two nights as well. It was a beautiful and reasonable drive to Fortuna on paved roads; even just driving through the crowded town made us SO grateful for the peace and beauty at La Finca.
The one thing that was not overtly clear from the website (or perhaps I simply missed it) was the walk from the furthest casitas (where we stayed) to the dining room and pool area. We are in our 30s and quite active so this was actually an awesome chance to walk and explore more. However, the paths are steep, sometimes slick, and not always lit at night (bring a headlamp!) so be aware if this sounds treacherous for you. There is always the option to drive to the reception area and avoid the walk, but the closer casitas might be a better option.
I could go on and on... I will personally be recommending La Finca for anyone traveling to the Fortuna area of CR. A huge thank you to the owners for creating this property and the staff for being so incredible...
