Guarumo Lodge — Hotel in Guápiles

We came here thinking it’s your typical local restaurant/hotel, but it’s so much more. You get a beautiful view over the river, a chance to see dozens of humming bird species all at once, and the greatest part of all is the staff.||This is the only restaurant we ever came to in Guapiles that offered English translation and a focus on helping tourists have the experience of something unique and new. We had a chance to swap stories with the owner, and learned about his vision for the place too! When we went to the birdwatching area, we saw over a dozen different types of hummingbirds up close within minutes, it was very interesting and baffling how they got so many species together. They piled up on bushes at eye level only within a few yards from us.||The food came out extremely fast, and my wife said it was one of the best meals she’s ever had. I agree, we called it the meal that kept on giving. They told us you shouldn’t order more because it’s a lot already and they were right! Anyone travelling to Tortuguero or the Caribbean coast but looking to rest after such a long flight? Here is absolutely perfect. Why anyone wants to stay in San jose is beyond me. Here is fantastic. Excellent host, accommodation with beautiful surroundings. Couldn't have asked for a better introduction to Costa rica! Breakfast was phenomenal and the coffee was sensational! I miss this place and will be back!

A short overnight stop at this lodge to break up our journey. There’s just two rooms here but if you can stop off at the cafe as you pass you will be treated to an incredible bird garden, lovingly nurtured by the owner Omar. There is an abundance of birds attracting enthusiasts worldwide. We saw at least 20 different birds species including a variety of hummingbirds and toucans including beautiful rainbow toucans.
