We stayed at beautiful rural retreat for three days and two nights. The experience that we enjoyed at this inn was most memorable. During our first evening, we met the owners, the husband and wife team of Marvin and Eunice. After confirming a few details, we were served a fresh, delicately prepared and organic pineapple. Marvin proceeded to give a two hour tour of his extensive property. A fair number of his fruit trees were labeled in Spanish for easy identification. Labeled or not, Marvin provided the herbal or therapeutic properties of each tree as well as which flowers best attracted hummingbirds. All of our meals prepared by Eunice were wonderful- very typical and tasty Tico fare. On our Second day, Marvin acted as our guide of Tenorio National Park. Prior to arrival, Marvin pointed out a sloth and two Tuscans, en route to the Park. The Park tour was four hours in length; more than double the average. It was time well spent. Marvin is a former guide and is well versed in the flora and fauna of this park. He also has a great sense of humour, making the trek through the woods, by the river and to the Falls that much more enjoyable. While we only saw the base of each volcano due to low cloud cover, the sky-blue water and Falls more than made up for the trip.||I would strongly recommend that you consider this inn for your stay in Rio Celeste. The room is clean, the food is very good, the hosts are very friendly and hospitable and the area is both scenic and relaxing. Finally, for anyone frugal in nature, this choice will meet your needs very...
Read more"Highly recommend – but be warned about transport costs!" We arrived by bus from La Fortuna, and the driver kindly dropped us right at the door of the posada — great start. The welcome was warm, and the place itself is really well cared for, with lovely grounds and a tidy, inviting layout.
Our room was spacious, spotless, and came with a private covered patio — perfect for relaxing. The bathroom was a good size too, with a larger-than-average shower, proper hot water, and decent pressure (not always a given in Costa Rica!). AC worked perfectly.
The manager went above and beyond — even driving us to a local restaurant when torrential rain made walking impossible. Seriously appreciated.
A heads-up though: Rio Celeste itself is tiny, and getting to the national park isn’t as simple as you'd hope. Taxis are surprisingly expensive for the distance. We tried walking but quickly realized that wasn’t the best plan — thankfully, hitchhiking worked and someone picked us up pretty quickly, saving us a decent chunk of money.
Leaving Rio Celeste is another challenge altogether — plan that carefully!
All in all, the posada itself is excellent. I'd stay here again without hesitation — but definitely figure out your...
Read moreThe hotel/B&B is relatively easy to find. I'd say it's a 10-15min drive to the Rio Celeste National Park. ||The hotel is quite sweet and the hosts are pretty friendly and welcoming. ||The room is ok, it's clean, cute and pretty minimal in it's decor. The only negative for me is the lack of air conditioning. It ended up not being really much of an issue as i got a good nights sleep. But i think i would have felt more comfortable with a bit of A/C.||On a separate note, the phone reception round there isn't the best. I couldn't pick up Claro Mobile anywhere around there. The B&B has wifi, but it's only really workable in their restaurant area. If you're desperate, take a short walk further into the village. As you get to the main crossroads, perhaps 5metres from it. There's a signpost/possibly a bus stop. On the sign gives you the details to sign into some free wifi. ||Apart from this, the breakfast was yummy. I do love Costa Rica's typical breakfast. ||Would i stay there again, possible not. But don't let my opinion put you off. It's ok for a...
