Lomas del Volcan gets 5/5 stars from us! I quite literally researched every single hotel/resort property not only in La Fortuna but also Costa Rica while planning our trip from USA. Lomas was severely underrated based upon our experience. The price for what we received is exceptional. The resort is all individual private "bungalows" suites. We booked one with a jacuzzi on the balcony which was incredible during rainy season. Most jacuzzi's are not big enough for us to enjoy, as my boyfriend is 6'7" and he fit these! They were LARGE! 100% worth the upgrade. The location of the resort is outside of town, probably a 7-8 minute taxi ride, but not walkable (unless you are a big walker and have no frets walking a few miles on a main road) but we had no trouble getting a taxi into town and the front desk arranged it for us. We utilized room service and had two dinners at the restaurant on site that was our best meals of the entire trip to Costa Rica. We traveled in May, during their off season, and it was outstanding. Resort was low occupancy even on the weekend, and we literally had dinner alone in the restaurant two nights in a row, it was peaceful, romantic and just wonderful. Every single staff member greeted us happily, and was beyond satisfied to assist us. One thing I was nervous about was Spa Services, because there are no photographs of their "Spa" on their website, and little information other than their service menu. I am an avid spa goer, having been to some of the most luxurious spa's in USA and I took a chance, hoping it would be a great experience since we were in the rainforest - BIG HIT! Their "Spa" is a small private bungalow suite situated high in the volcano hills of the rainforest on their property, and I had the most incredible massage I have ever had at any resort. Open air room in the rain forest during a light thunderstorm with the sounds of rain, and wildlife the entire time. It was magical!! I almost did a second one the next day! Lomas has renovated the majority of their bungalows and were in process of finishing the remaining groups while we were there. We actually stayed in 2 bungalows, they moved us after night 1 to have a better volcano view. We stayed in both a renovated bungalow, and a non-renovated. The renovations are wonderful and honestly they aren't changing a whole lot, but the upgrades they are doing make your stay more enjoyable. The property grounds were stunning - lush, floral, beautifully manicured and there were lots of wildlife present. We were lucky enough to enjoy a Sloth right on sight! They knew we were celebrating our Anniversary and provided Chocolate Covered Strawberries in our bungalow along with cute Swan towel decorations with a personalized card (that I kept!) I would strongly recommend Lomas del Volcan to anyone seeking a stay in La Fortuna - it was...
Read moreThis was my favorite place we stayed at during our two week honeymoon in Costa Rica. We loved every part of our stay and would love to stay here again sometime!
Hotel itself-Very nice, well maintained property. We felt very safe here. The location was wonderful with lots of restaurants and things to do nearby if you have a car. We had a rental car and parking at the hotel was free. The included breakfast was spectacular. They had waffle makers, an omelette station, build your own sandwich station, fresh fruit and cheese, fresh fruit juice, hot items like sausage and potatoes, yogurt, an entire table of pastries, and more. The servers walked around frequently to refill coffee. We ordered food at the pool twice and it was pretty good both times. We really enjoyed the patacones with guac. We also ordered drinks at the pool several times. The drinks were always delicious and we enjoyed chatting with Rudy the bartender. The hotel has two pools and a jacuzzi/hot tub all right next to each other. The pool with the swim up bar is heated and the second pool is not heated. There is a nice view of the volcano from the pool. The hotel also has two restaurants. We ate at the more casual restaurant for dinner one night and enjoyed our food. We saw lots of wildlife while staying here including both agouti and coati from our balcony, iguanas by the pool, toucans, and other birds. The hotel also has a 1 mile nature trail. We figured it would be a lame paved trail but it was like an actual hiking trail! We unfortunately did not see anything on the trail but the couple who exited as we were entering said they saw spider monkeys.
The room-We stayed at Hotel Lomas Del Volcan for five nights on our honeymoon. We had one of the deluxe bungalows with the bathtub on the balcony and absolutely loved it. The room was very spacious with lots of storage space and a closet. The bathroom was also very spacious. The AC worked great. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony while drinking coffee and to watch the sunset. We saw quite a few animals from our balcony. There were a few other bungalows visible from our balcony but there were drapes that could be closed for privacy...
Read moreWe had a great 42nd anniversary. Planned it for over 3 years but unfortunately COVID 19 hit and it was delayed for over 3 years. Now we are here beginning with water fall repelling an invigorating experience and staying at Hotel Lomas del Volcan (bottom of the volcano). Going on to enjoy white water rapids and zip lining in another hotel tomorrow. The hotel was fabulous, remote top class bungalows very imaculate detail with professional carpentry and a great view at the base of a very young volcano Arenal which erupted in 2017. Complimentary breakfast was huge and fantasticly delicious, lots to choose from all freshly cooked. Eggs and pancakes on the grill to order along with numerous fruits, breads, you name it.
The food for lunch and supper was reasonable for the area. Drinks at the quietly unentertaining bar are different prices depending on whose behind the bar. We were charged $27 dollars for 4 cranberry/vodka drinks the night before but when Carolina Garay was in charge she decided we also needed to pay 11.38 to add a small amount of cranberry to our same vodka drinks making it $22 dollars for only two. Sorry it's not the money but More the attitude when we asked her to explain. FYI there rarely were any hotel guests at the bar on a Saturday night at 6 pm in a full hotel, might be a clue.
Front Desk/restaurant/maid service Jose Araya from the restaurant/bar and all the rest of the staff extremely friendly and very helpful. Most spoke very good English. I would stay here again. The ambiance is wonderful. We will be going into town to eat supper and for entertainment from now on though. Casa Fortuna a restaurant we found had great food reasonable prices in town. Pool and hot tub also very nice. A jungle trail at the back of the property the birds and monkeys are very entertaining especially in the...
