Birds and breakfast is located in a beautiful area 15 minutes from La Tigra de San Carlos on the Carribean side of the Children's Eternal Rainforest. On arrival our hosts Marce and Fabio welcomed us and immediately put us at ease. The rooms are all very good with lots of space to spread out and two rooms recently upgraded. Both Fabio and Marce are excellent cooks. Each meal was delicious and prepared too a high standard. You can watch tropical birds while eating breakfast, which for a birder, is the perfect way to start the day! The feeders, in front of the dinning area, are setup for bird photography with at least 20 species or more possible every morning. From a birding point of view, Fabio and Marce are excellent guides with Fabio having many years of experience. We targeted a number of birds and found nearly all of them! They included, Snowcap, Sicklebill, Sunbittern, Tody Motmot, Antbirds and Black Hawk-eagle. Fabio somehow finding birds in the dense rainforest foliage that I would never have seen on my own. There were also lots of great bird photographic opportunities during day trips to some wonderful and diverse locations. Above all, we were made to feel part of the family, an experience you often miss at larger lodges. Both my wife and I can't recommend them highly enough. Whether you want to do some fairly intense birding and hiking or just sit and relax while watching birds on the feeders and in the beautiful surroundings, it's a wonderful place to stay. We can't wait to go back!

If you are a birder, or you just love nature, this is the perfect place! You can just step outside and already be surrounded by birds, provided the weather is nice. It does frequently rain, but it almost never lasts for more than an hour. The room my family and I stayed in was very nice and decorated with paintings of birds. It also had a deck that we relaxed on and watched birds from. In the morning, guests are served a delicious Costa Rican breakfast of fruits, eggs, and gallo pinto. I suggest you bring binoculars to breakfast, because you get to eat on the porch right next to the bird feeders. I saw honeycreepers, tanagers, and hummingbirds. The hosts, Fabio and Marce, are super friendly, and my family and I had some great conversations with them. We went on a morning bird hike led by Fabio, to a small family-owned fruit farm. Fabio was a great guide, because he taught us about the plants, flowers, and birds that we saw. In the evening, he led a night hike at a local botanical garden, where we saw tree frogs, poison dart frogs, and a sloth. My family and I also hiked a bit on our own. The trails around Birds and Breakfast are wide and well-marked, but they can get pretty muddy after it rains. Overall, I am very glad that we stayed here and it was a very memorable experience.

A Jewel in the Rainforest! Birds & Breakfast above La Tigra is easy to access from the main highway that runs between San Ramon and La Fortuna. It is just below the end of a rocked road (a good 4WD is a must) that goes up to the Children’s Eternal Rainforest. Here you will have a World-class birding experience whether sitting at the breakfast table or on an excursion in the ‘neighborhood’ with Fabio! So many people have become avid birders after a visit at Birds & Breakfast! Marce and Fabio are lovely and compassionate hosts who make sure that you are comfortable and strive to give you the best experience. They are locals who can inform you about what is on offer in this part of the Country. This is a small, owner-occupied property; it has the feel of visiting friends. Being in the middle of the rainforest without traffic, pollution or overhead jets is an exotic experience where you can see and feel Mother Nature on full display. Not to mention the purity of the air and water. Some of the cleanest on the Planet! I must mention Bobi and Cannelo, the resident dogs. They are friendly and entertaining. Always happy to see new guests and hang out. If you want a truly unique experience with expert guides, this is the place!

Wanted to stay here with friends, but stayed down the road, (La Tirgra Mountain House-wonderful 30 meters down the road). Had a lovely all day birding tour with Fabio to the Highlands! It was amazing! Fabio picked us up at 7 am, from our lodgings down the road, we then proceeded to pick up a most delicious lunch (wrapped in a banana leaf with Cas juice we'd have later). Headed to, "The Brothers," where we were able to experience seeing a Great Hawk Eagle in her nest with a hatchling. It was a great amazing site! The weather was perfect/sunny, and Fabio had his Szarkowski scope on it in a jiff! He was very patient with me as it took awhile for me to find it in the trees...lol. He took multiple photos of the nest and the eagle through his scope for us as well. Fabio answered all questions with interest, enthusiasm, and levity! He is a very informative guide to the flora and fauna, as well as, all the birds which were flying by While we heard the Quetzel, and a quick fly by at this local, we didn't get a good sighting. It was still lovely, with 5 types of hummingbirds at this location as well on a feeder and flowers. We proceeded to another feeding station, the home of one of the Brothers, where the sightings were amazing! We were able to have our lunch here too. We had chairs, and could enjoy all the beautiful avian companions having their lunch as well. Lastly, we stopped at a strip mall type of adventure place that had feeders in which you had to pay an additional 10 $ US for viewing more birds at the feeders. This was well worth it for me, as this too was a great birding opportunity, with hummers and some ground birds to boot. Fabio never rushed us, gave us ample time with all the bird sightings, answered all our questions, and was an excellent drive on the wild mt. roads of Costa Rica. Lastly- communication with his wife Marcella was wonderful! She answered all my questions via email/text in a very timely manner and also changed our initial tour so that we had the best chance to see the most birds on our one big birding day! Definitely would go back to take...

No guarantees with nature of course, but the wildlife in Costa Rica is so rich it's rare that you go too long without seeing something incredible.||My tips. I found Colones more useful than Dollars (but I didn't need so much of either). If you think you might be interested in photography - definitely bring a camera, the opportunities are amazing. Longer review:

I stayed for for eight nights, so seven full days for birding and experiences. As I said - staying at Birds & Breakfast was one of the happiest times in my life.

I stayed in the Trogon room - it was clean, spacious, quiet (apart from bird song!), a pleasant temperature and comfortable.

Breakfast each morning was wonderful. The Gallo Pinto was delicious, and even better to eat in the garden watching the toucans and many many other bird species. You can take wonderful photos without even leaving the house! The team are so warm and welcoming I felt like part of the family.

Fabio and Marcela are just incredible hosts - they've made something really special here.
