Wanted to stay here with friends, but stayed down the road, (La Tirgra Mountain House-wonderful 30 meters down the road). Had a lovely all day birding tour with Fabio to the Highlands! It was amazing! Fabio picked us up at 7 am, from our lodgings down the road, we then proceeded to pick up a most delicious lunch (wrapped in a banana leaf with Cas juice we'd have later). Headed to, "The Brothers," where we were able to experience seeing a Great Hawk Eagle in her nest with a hatchling. It was a great amazing site! The weather was perfect/sunny, and Fabio had his Szarkowski scope on it in a jiff! He was very patient with me as it took awhile for me to find it in the trees...lol. He took multiple photos of the nest and the eagle through his scope for us as well. Fabio answered all questions with interest, enthusiasm, and levity! He is a very informative guide to the flora and fauna, as well as, all the birds which were flying by While we heard the Quetzel, and a quick fly by at this local, we didn't get a good sighting. It was still lovely, with 5 types of hummingbirds at this location as well on a feeder and flowers. We proceeded to another feeding station, the home of one of the Brothers, where the sightings were amazing! We were able to have our lunch here too. We had chairs, and could enjoy all the beautiful avian companions having their lunch as well. Lastly, we stopped at a strip mall type of adventure place that had feeders in which you had to pay an additional 10 $ US for viewing more birds at the feeders. This was well worth it for me, as this too was a great birding opportunity, with hummers and some ground birds to boot. Fabio never rushed us, gave us ample time with all the bird sightings, answered all our questions, and was an excellent drive on the wild mt. roads of Costa Rica. Lastly- communication with his wife Marcella was wonderful! She answered all my questions via email/text in a very timely manner and also changed our initial tour so that we had the best chance to see the most birds on our one big birding day! Definitely would go back to take...

Do not waste your time reading my review.||Longer review:||I stayed for for eight nights, so seven full days for birding and experiences. As I said - staying at Birds & Breakfast was one of the happiest times in my life. ||I stayed in the Trogon room - it was clean, spacious, quiet (apart from bird song!), a pleasant temperature and comfortable.||Breakfast each morning was wonderful. The Gallo Pinto was delicious, and even better to eat in the garden watching the toucans and many many other bird species. You can take wonderful photos without even leaving the house! The team are so warm and welcoming I felt like part of the family.||Fabio and Marcela are just incredible hosts - they've made something really special here. Fabio is an outstanding bird guide - I still need to confirm my final tally, but I estimate that I've seen between 125-150 different bird species (plus sloths, lizards, frogs, bats, tapir, monkeys, agouti...) all thanks to him. Marce designed an amazing itinerary for me that met all of my wants and needs. ||I was lucky enough to do lots of experiences. My favourite was Caño Negro - I saw 87 bird species in a single day! Arenal Volcano, the Highlands and Boca Tapada were also amazing and each one had their own highlights (White Hawk, Resplendent Quetzal, Royal Flycatcher with crest display, respectively). No guarantees with nature of course, but the wildlife in Costa Rica is so rich it's rare that you go too long without seeing something incredible.||My tips. I found Colones more useful than Dollars (but I didn't need so much of either). If you think you might be interested in photography - definitely bring a camera, the opportunities are amazing. And binoculars too. Comfortable Wellington boots also handy - Birds & Breakfast have some to borrow but a pair you find extra comfortable would be nice.||I'm writing this on my flight home and I am already daydreaming about my return...
