A Hidden Gem Near La Fortuna…

This place is truly something special. I came here just looking for a good meal, but I left with a full stomach, a perfect cocktail buzz, and a heart full of joy.

The food is absolutely delicious—authentic, fresh, and priced just right. You can tell it’s made with love, not just for tourists but for anyone who appreciates good, honest cooking. And the cocktails? Amazing. Fresh ingredients, great flavor, and just the right strength to make you wonder if you ever want to leave.

But what really makes this place unforgettable is what happens after the meal. The incredibly friendly owner invites you to walk around his property—and it’s like stepping into a tropical dream. Frogs, iguanas everywhere, and yes—sloths! Actual wild sloths, just chilling in the trees like it’s no big deal. And the best part? It’s completely free. No entry fee, no tour charges—just pure Costa Rican generosity.

This is not a tourist trap. It’s the kind of place you tell your friends about and secretly hope it never gets too popular. A true hidden gem...

We had the best time of our Costa Rica trip here! Giovanni and his family are incredibly warm hosts and show you the best side of the country and its people. ☀️ We had dinner there on all 3 evenings and got lots of tips for local excursions and had super interesting conversations with Giovanni himself. The food was always top quality and the prices were incredibly fair compared to many other restaurants.

There is also the option of staying overnight and enjoying the lovingly designed grounds with lot of wildlife and nature. If we come to Costa Rica again, we would definitely stay there! 🙂

Dear Giovanni, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for these wonderful evenings with you and your family. We will always remember it and come back any time. All...

We arrived hangry and left with full stomachs and even fuller hearts. In just a couple of hours, I felt like I had made a lifelong friend. Geovanni and his family were incredible hosts, and the food was absolutely delicious. We tried the chicken with mushroom sauce, the burger, and the steak with chimichurri—everything was cooked to perfection and arrived quickly. The prices were more than fair for the quality and experience.

If you have the chance to tour the property, don’t miss it! The grounds are home to a variety of wildlife, making it a wonderful experience for tourists. There’s a sense of peace and tranquility that you can feel throughout the entire place. I’m already looking forward to coming back and staying the night...

Upon arrival we received a warm welcome from the owner and his family. We ordered two Imperials which were immediately sent to the table along with an incredible complementary starter of black beans and chips. After a few bites we were offered a tour to search for “perezosos” on the property. The owner was absolutely amazing in giving us a personal tour showing us sloths, frogs, and more while we waiting for our food to be prepared. After the tour, we enjoyed the most incredible ceviche! For dinner we shared a decadent carne with chimichurri. Words sincerely cannot describe how amazing our experience was at Guapote Lodge!!!
