We did not stay at Finca Sura but did the walking tour/lunch with Alejandro. We absolutely loved our visit to Finca Sura, and Alejandro was an incredible ambassador. This is a niche tour, do not expect a massive operation of your bucket-list-must-see-Costa-Rica-crop (ie: Just cacao, just pineapple, just coffee, etc). Instead it's snippets of the local agriculture: cinnamon, achiote, green peppercorns, vanilla, (yes) pineapple (yes, INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS), ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and maybe a few others. Alejandro was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and did an excellent job at explaining how he and his family are attempting to navigate this delicate balance of honoring their ancestral relationship with agriculture alongside the current complexities of globalization. Fascinating and left us with lots to reflect about. The lunch, and additional charge, was well worth it and very delicious. Highly recommended for those interested in visiting a very small working farm and opening their minds to a different side of Pura Vida.
My only recommendation would be to update the website to make reserving a room easier. We would have loved to have stayed but there is no info about pricing or accommodation specifics, just a WhatsApp contact. It would be nice to see a link to a listing on AirBnB, Booking.com, VRBO, etc where we can book and...
Read moreWe read about a tour offered by this farm, but we showed up without an appointment. The farm manager and his daughters were more than welcoming and arranged a special tour (at a discounted price) for us. We were shown the various fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices grown on the farm, with ample opportunities to sample and taste. The pineapple expertly cut for us was the most delicious I have ever tasted. We were taken back to the farm to learn how chocolate is made and to make some ourselves. And as an added extra, the farm manager took us to where he knew some red-eyed frogs would be and gave us a small lesson on their habits and breeding. All-in-all it was a highlight of our trip to Costa Rica so expertly managed by people who didn't even know we were coming! Well...
Read moreVery nice place if you are looking for tranquility and to meet nice native people that are keen on nature. The farmer and his daughter take time to explain how they harvest pinaples and tilapias (fish) and if you are lucky you would be also glad to see frogs by night and perots early the morning. The only downside i would have is the cleaning of the room that could really be streamlined. Diner onsite is delicious cooked with product from the farm, but a bite quite expensive (but since you know where your food...
