Whilst the buildings are quaint and have historical importance the overall impression is that it is in need of capital investment and ongoing maintenance.
The room was basic, a comfortable bed, ceiling fan and shower in the bathroom. The pole on which the shower curtain was held kept falling off the wall and a drawer in the bedside table fell apart when the drawer was opened. The shower and toilet is separated from the bedroom by a partition that is not full height to the ceiling.
A comment from another reviewer mentions that the rooms have air conditioning. Possibly lost in translation; there is no air conditioning but the ceiling fan works well enough.
The nearness of heavy industrial traffic on a very busy highway was far from ideal. There is a pathway through the forest but much bird sound is drowned out by the sound of Mac trucks thundering past. To be fair there's nothing the owner of the lodge can do about the traffic.
The food available is nice enough but there is only a small menu with limited choices. Breakfast is somewhat spartan. A small plate of fruit and choice of fried or scrambled eggs plus rice and beans. A request for an omelette was met with a firm "No.".
On returning to the lodge about 9:30pm after we'd been on a night walk at the Tirimbina Reserve we were hoping to get a drink. Not possible. No-one was around, the place was as quiet as the grave.
If it wasn't for the polite, pleasant and helpful staff this would be a...
Read moreAlthough the walking trail is okay and the first impression was quite okay, there is a lot of negatives. The breakfast is minimalistic. Not a lot of choice. The chocolate tour is more about many other things like where tomatos are from and its just a tour of the hotels garden. Then one is shown an original chocolate drink and a sweetened one. Not a bit of actuall chocolate. But they tell you that you can buy one for 5$ at the reception. This tour is already 40$ which is way too much. The rooms are bad. They are dirty with dust, spiderwebs, spiders and stains. The room wasnt cleaned on our 2 day stay. Not even the trashcan where one has to put ones toilet paper wasnt emptied. There is no window one could open. Only a door which opens to the porch for everyone to enter, also all the mosquitos. In our room there is also the roof beam which holds up the roof which is rotten and looks like it and the whole of the roof could come down on us any moment. Its the worst hotel yet for us in costa rica.
Then the margaritha at the bar seems to be a pre made mix or just plain bad. Tasted horrible.
Overall just...
Read moreStayed here on group tour for 2 days, which was 2 days too long. On arrival room missing towels, glasses and soap in dispenser which still wasn’t replaced when asked manager. No hot water in sink which WE resolved by turning on isolation valve others in our group had no hot water at all. The room felt damp and there were unpleasant stains and cracks in walls. Others in our group had to have damp and soiled bedding replaced. Our shower curtain fell down and the toilet seat was broken|The owner/manager when questioned about problems is rude and dismissive and had the bad manners to text on his phone whilst I spoke to him. |On a positive note his staff are pleasant and polite and in general the food was fine. My Greek salad delicious and beautifully presented|Plenty of birds which you could hear on occasions when they weren’t drowned out by the numerous heavy sound of lorries in the nearby road.|Perhaps we should have guessed what this place was like when we turned off the road as the small hotel sign is unreadable as it is dirty thick with green Lichen/dirt. Almost one of the worst hotels we...
