If I could give this place 6/5 stars I would. We had a great time at Hostel Nicoa with Federico as our host. He was very accommodating, gave us the inside scoop on local places/restaurants to checkout, and even went out of his way to help us order tuktuks (cheap local taxis) whenever needed. He was always available on WhatsApp if we had any questions and even helped to order us food at one point when it was too late to go out.
The hostel itself is clean and located in a very peaceful, local, and lovely area—lots of nature and no tourists/traffic. Only a 10min drive to playa pelada, where you can then easily walk south to playa guiones through a short trail.
If you like wildlife, this is the place to stay. In the morning we saw howler monkeys in the trees outside the hostel and there’s lots of beautiful birds, not to mention the neighbor’s friendly dogs that like to stop by and get their pets. If you’re an early riser it’s a great spot to get a nice walk or run in before starting your day. In fact, the road on which the hostel is located leads you to Ostional, which is where the sea turtles are. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a nice trail to ride your bike.
Highly recommend staying here for at least one night if you...
Read moreAn amazing time!
You get a sense of real life here in Costa Rica. Far enough from the city to hear birds chirping and be greeted by some neighboring cows in the afternoon.
The beach is not too far by tuktuk, which can be called for you, but the neighborhood is safe and friendly enough that you can to hitchhike to the beach pretty easily!
The host is friendly & understanding and provides enough food for you to prepare yourself some breakfast every morning. He is very invested in you having a good time. He will offer suggestions of places that only locals know if you're looking to get away from the hustle of the typical tourist vacation.
The place feels like an instant home as you get to know the other guests on the porch or by the pool. There is even a neighbor, Julio y Jessica, who will prepare and bring you homecooked food for cheap. A gem of luxury in...
Read moreI enjoyed my stay here so much! José, one of the guys taking care of the hostel, brought me to Nosara and I am so happy he did! The hostel is in a qiet costa rican neighbourhood - away from the tourists. You get to the beach by TucTuc, which is abut 3.000 Colones one way, but every afternoon the guys take you to the beach to watch the sunset and drink a beer, which is kind of a tradition there. The supermarket is within walking distance. The hostel itself is more like a living community, its just a big house with the pool and garden and some cows behind (which I unfortunately didnt see), you have everything you need. Thank you so much Frederico, José and Diego...
