We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Tapanti Media and wish we could have stayed longer. There was a mix-up with our booking, but the staff was wonderful about finding us a nearby place to stay for our first night, with no inconvenience to us, and with secure parking. They handled all the arrangements with the sister lodging, and the staff at both places made us feel very welcome. We were even invited to come for an early breakfast at Tapanti, even though we were staying at the sister hotel. Once we got to Tapanti for our stay, we did not want to leave! The view from our second floor balcony was amazing, overlooking the beautiful Orosi valley and surrounding mountains, as well as a beautifully- tended garden, and we we were treated to a chorus of birds on awakening. Although the office staff did not speak much English, we were able to do fine with what they knew and the Spanish I was learning, and they were so friendly and willing to work with us, it was fun trying, Actually, the lady in the restaurant spoke very good English, and she fixed us a wonderful breakfast of typical Costa Rican foods, beautifully-presented, as well as providing a delicious Italian meal in the restaurant right on the premises that evening. There is also a bar if you wish to have a drink later in the evening. All the staff were attentive and very helpful. We arrived early for breakfast the next morning, not realizing our "early" breakfast the first morning was by special arrangement, probably due to the "birding" excursion group who joined us that morning. But the lovely gentleman who was already in the kitchen kindly prepared us a wonderful breakfast himself, and was so pleasant about doing so. ||We enjoyed walking around the grounds at the hotel as well, and felt very secure, as the premises were always guarded.||The room was lovely, as well as having a great view. Great location for visiting places in the Orosi valley. We really enjoyed Tapanti and meeting the friendly, excellent staff who worked very hard to make our visit a pleasant and memorable one. Highly recommended.||(Note: When traveling, make sure you are looking for Hotel Tapanti Media, as there is another Tapanti hotel that comes up on the GPS, and it is not even...
Read moreWhen touring our guests we have stayed here in past years and always found this to be excellent - particularly for the great food on site and the peaceful mountainside surroundings. This year, not so much. The assets are that it's clean, safe, surrounded with beautiful gardens that bring interesting bird life and the staff are friendly although strictly Spanish speaking. There were a few teenage kids hanging around and they speak English so they were able to help us. Being winter locals we understand that the Costa Rican way of life means sometimes having no water, no hot water, no A/C, often no soap or paper products available in washrooms, slow wifi, and no flushing toilet paper etc. That's okay. We didn't mind the sparse room but the fact that there was a very strong odour of sewer coming from the drains in both our bathroom as well as our friends bathroom was hard to overcome. Otherwise the hotel was fine for cleanliness and accommodation in spite of the slightly high price compared to a brand new hotel in town offering brand new rooms and a pool. |Our disappointment was with the restaurant and bar. We were the only people eating other than the managers sitting at another table with some on-duty police officers having their break. That's fine. The sweet male server we had didn't understand a lick of English but we are in his country and should be better at Spanish so we pointed to the menu items we wanted and didn't ask for any alterations to our order. The food was okay and portions were generous but our cocktails contained absolutely no alcohol - which was fine - but we were charged for the higher price and couldn't seem to make our pleasant host understand he served us straight juice. Oh well. The wifi was shut off at a certain point in the night and that caused some major grief for one person in our party but otherwise our stay was okay. It's such a beautiful spot and it's sad to see the decline. We haven't decided if we will take our next guests back here or try the newer, more affordable place in town which is closer to restaurants and amenities. If you're looking for a place and want clean, safe & peaceful then this is great - just dine with an open mind and...
Read moreI recently visited the Hotel, and unfortunately, my experience was quite negative. Although the atmosphere and food are usually pleasant, what I witnessed on my last visit was unacceptable. While enjoying my meal, I witnessed a disturbing situation. The manager, who I found out was "Media Libra," was yelling at the chef, who was clearly too sick to be working, barely showing any strength. The chef could barely stand and looked visibly ill. It is completely inhumane and unprofessional for staff to be treated this way, especially when they are sick.
This kind of behavior is not only insensitive but also detrimental to the health of the staff and the quality of the food. As a customer, it is concerning to see employees not being treated with the respect and consideration they deserve. This incident has severely impacted my perception of the establishment.
I sincerely hope that measures are taken to improve the treatment of the staff, as situations like this are unacceptable and reflect poorly on the management of the place. Until I see a positive change, I cannot recommend this...
