If you need to stay in the area of Orotina, the Hotel Iguana Verde is truly the oasis in the urban desert surrounding it. Its small number of inward-facing rooms all overlook a compact, enclosed terrace with mature, verdant plants around a very attractive pool with a swim-up bar, a feature-waterfall and half-a-dozen sun-loungers. Breakfast by this pool is an omelette and beans (no choice!). Lunch and dinner were once available too, but not at present (Feb 23). However, pizza and seafood deliveries (and probably burgers and chicken too, but we didn't ask) can be ordered easily from the front desk for consumption 20-30 minutes later in the air-conditioned dining room or by the pool using FOC the hotel's cutlery, crockery and glasses. Our room had a double and a single bed - but maybe not all the rooms have this. The hotel has a high-fenced and fully-gated parking compound immediately alongside, which is reassuring even (and I have no idea at all) if the security is unnecessary. Hose owns the hotel and is a hands-on Manager. He is very ably assisted by the outstandingly excellent, thoughtful and considerate Andreina. We would happily return to the Hotel Iguana Verde if we had a reason to want to stay once again...
Read moreMy husband and I spent one night at the Hotel Iguana Verde in Orotina in January during the Festival of the Three Wisemen. The small town was crowded, streets were closed and celebrations abounded with a parade, food trucks, music and fireworks. We found the very reasonably priced hotel to be a peaceful oasis in down town. The car park was fenced and watched. Once past the office, the hotel of 17 rooms was situated around a delightful courtyard boasting a pool, bar and restaurant area. Our room was just as pictured and spotlessly clean. The bed was quite comfortable and the room remained quiet. The tile bath offered a generous sized shower with ample hot water. Breakfast was included in the room rate and was prepared fresh for us - a generous traditional Tico breakfast with local fruits, eggs, bread, rice and beans. The staff were all pleasant and made good recommendations about town. We felt comfortable enjoying the festivities during the evening and would happily return to this vibrant,...
Read moreWe only stayed one night. Their restaurant was closed. But it was nice to venture out. We walked to an Italian restaurant which we never found. Ended up ordering a pizza a an open air restaurant! Brought it back to the hotel and ate it at their bar! We shared it with the night shift personnel. It seemed more like he was their “jack of all jobs”! Wonderful night! But the most wonderful part is that I forgot my tablet, which was very upsetting. When we arrived at our rental condo we contacted the hotel. They had found it and went out of their way to ship it safely back to our home in Virginia! This was not an easy task for them, they went out of their way finding the best and least expensive way. Of course we...
