We booked the now-called Rios Lodge as part of the two day rafting trip, which we would definitely recommend! Rafting the river is absolutely stunning, adventurous and beautiful, and the canyon views are outstanding. Our guide Kenneth was an absolute star, taking care of us at all times and providing much appreciated insights into the region and history - we loved every single minute on the water!!
However, this was different when on land. We stayed two days at the Lodge, and would have preferred to leave after night 1. The rooms are VERY dated and not clean or well cared for - we were, together with another couple, the only guests for 2 nights. Nonetheless, we were given very dark rooms with uncomfortable mattresses, there were cobwebs everywhere, and we had streets of ants crossing our room at night. There are no windows (only mosquito nets), and our corner room meant that everyone going to their room had to walk next to our four open windows - resulting in limited privacy. The meals on the first day weren't good, however that improved considerably after the first day (and a cook arrived, so maybe they needed time to adjust), and was thereafter very good. We were told that the lodge had recently switched owners and that the new owners are now trying to improve things around the lodge - we actually saw them briefly on our second day. They did not engage with guests (otherwise would have given this feedback personally) - hoping that going forward, the rooms will improve as the location itself is stunning and has a lot...
Read moreOne of the best trips of my life! We had a fantastic combination of adventure, comfort, education and peaceful contemplation all packed into four days that felt much longer. ||Our river guide Jorge expertly shepherded us through our raft journey both in and out of the lodge, as well as taking us on both strenuous river crossing hikes and calm walks around the property to meet lizards, snakes, birds and butterflies. We tasted traditional medicinal plants, learned about fungus and insect communities that depend on each other to live, and saw the incredible variety of symbiotic plant life that makes up the rainforest. ||Adventure highlights included a fantastic zip lining experience, tubing on the river, and of course the exciting class 3 and 4 rapids on the way out at the end of our trip. ||Climate change is obvious here as it is everywhere and although January is typically the dry season, we had torrential rain on our arrival. This did not stop us from a dramatic night hike to see the frogs and snakes who thrive in the velvety darkness of a rainy evening. ||All the people involved, from owner Arturo, Alex who managed our logistics, to all the excellent river guides and lodge staff, we're so kind and knowledgeable. 100 percent...

We travelled as a family with 2kids, one was just 6 years old. He enjoyed most the zip Line. We stayed 5 days on the lodge, so we could discover some sloths, tukans, monkeys, blue butterflies, so many beautiful flowers. The whole stay was a great adventure. The staff was soo friendly und tried to fullfill every wish. Breakfast lunch and dinner were so delicious. We hiked on small path to waterfalls, to swimming places, swimmingwholes. My favourite activitiy was the Canyoing Tour with my husband and Esteban our guide. Our guide told us a lot about medicine plants growing near the Pacuare river. We did not know that our guide Esteban acomaniys us all 5 days. It was great.|The price was really okay, because all hikes, zipline, Canyoing Tour, Rafting, Transfers with the Landrover are included.|When you go to La Fortuna, you pay for every bridge, waterfall or zipline more than 59 Dollar per person.|Thanks a lot to our Guide Esteban and to Arthuro , it was our best adventure holidays...
