My stay at Mapi's was for a short week, at a rate of $28 a night for a single person, I thought this was very affordable offering hot water, AC, TV and small fridge. The town is within 10 min walking distance, with a super market, bank, pharmacy with a variety of restaurants serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, though the rooms were just updated with Express room service from 3 local Restaurants that deliver. My favorite part was the humming bird feeders hanging in front of the cabin doors, this was my first time ever seeing humming birds and they'd feed from morning to dusk! I was so excited, I asked for a chair to just sit down to contemplate them! I met the owners who were visiting from the USA and they were inspecting, making repairs, doing pest control which is a challenge when visiting areas of Costa Rica. They were also busy building an open kitchen BBQ on the property, with running water and electricity which was finished when I left. My hilite of my vacation was visiting Curu Reserve only about 12 miles away, where I saw Capuchin monkeys and took the boat trip to Isla Tortuga where the water was clear and enjoyed the fresh fruits served with refreshments and locals that passed by in their boat with fresh lobster to eat as ceviche. The only inconvenience would be the pot holes but that's the country's problem and I recommend to rent 4 wheel drive or take the bus, ferry or taxi which is...
Read moreWe had an awesome experience at Mapi's, my girls (10, 9yrs old), loved waking up to eating fresh mangoes from the trees, seeing the iguanas, the humming birds all on the property. I also took my elderly in laws who stayed on first floor cabins and were also very comfortable and entertained with all the fruits and wildlife on site... Nearby we saw monkeys on the trees, locals call them Congos. This is a bird watcher's paradise, I saw half a dozen species of parrots, macaws and toucans on the nearby beaches. The cleanliness of the rooms and friendly staff made us feel very comfortable like family. The wifi in the room was not working but it was available at the office but they were going to take care of it, they did explain this sometimes is an issue with the back units. While there, we drove to Mal Pais, surfing paradise, Montezuma a mellow town with roaring waves, unable to do the zip lines or see the waterfalls but definitely will go back for that... Mapi's is the first hotel and best place to stay when getting off the ferry when traveling at night. Overall, we can't wait to go back for more of Costa...
Read moreFor the price, this place is great to have a home base to sleep and shower which is all we did here. We did not come to Paquera to lounge in our hotel, so this is exactly what we needed. We stayed a few nights here and were able to catch the local bus to the Curu Reserve and Motezuma right in front of the place. We were also able to walk 10 minutes to the 'town' of Paquera for dinner. It was safe, clean had great wi-fi, A/C and actually had a TV (not that we used it). We arrived here via ferry from Puntarenas and then take a $5 taxi to this place. Also, a 10 minute walk to Las Vegas, a great local spot with amazing ceviche. They only accept cash and the ladies who checked us in do not speak English, so be prepared to communicate the rate and how long you want to stay in Spanish. Finally, the place is surrounded by the BEST MANGOES you will ever have...
