OPacifico Hotel Boutique — Hotel in Paquera

We leave the hotel with rather mixed feelings. The hotel was renovated a few years ago, the bathrooms were redone and the whole complex was redesigned. The grounds around the pool are extremely nicely done.

Nonetheless, for a price of USD 300 per night in Costa Rica (after Christmas 2021), many things did not live up to the price: -the rooms are very small, estimated at 15m2, barely room to spread out two suitcases. -location: the complex (especially the rooms), are situated about 30m from the main road, cars and motorcycles can be heard from time to time. The beach is nothing special, the sea at our time full of algae (for which the hotel of course can not help). The hotel is in the middle of nowhere, actually good for relaxing, despite being right next to the main road. -The service in the hotel/restaurant is friendly, but very unprofessional/untrained and not at all in line with the price level of USD 300: slow, inattentive, things are forgotten, etc. We heard several guests complaining that they waited extremely long for food, so we were not the only ones. We deliberately booked the hotel (which is away from restaurants and stores) to relax. So one assumes that one will have all meals in the hotel. However, if the service is not adequate and the food is clearly overpriced (USD 15 for a tomato mozzarella salad as an example), one automatically goes to eat outside the hotel and then has to make the trip accordingly. In addition, for a price of USD 300 and "Breakfast included", I assume to have a free choice of meals. However, we could only choose between about 5 different variants, each extra costs additionally. Once again, the value for money is not accurate.

On the whole, the price/performance ratio is not accurate. We have been to several hotels in Costa Rica, in the same and other price ranges, and this was comparatively the worst in terms of...

A strong 4 star experience that was better than we expected in many ways. Booked as a stopover en route to Santa Teresa and so we could go to Isla Tortuga. Stayed two nights. What we liked: -Very clean rooms! Although they are furnished in a simple style, they are comfortable and spacious. No TV but that didn't bother us. Veranda opens onto the gardens... -The gardens! What a delight! Really unexpectedly lush gardens bordering the beach. Very well kept with a large, warm swimming pool, plenty of sun loungers and hammocks by the beach. The long pier is great to catch the sunset. -Entertainment was nice - we didn't use the watersports but they looked comprehensive and well maintained. Petanque/bocce was a nice touch in the gardens.

Some things to improve: -The service was good. We liked the welcome, and the restaurant/breakfast service was mostly good but could be a little more consistent (e.g. didn't get orange juice on our first breakfast but did on the second day). We also didn't get our drinking water topped up when the room was serviced. There are water coolers in the communal areas though. -The food was hit and miss. We had dinner one night and it was simply ok. Beef tacos slightly chewy and the octopus came with a somewhat glutinous red wine jus. For breakfast the Costa Rican version was good (soft scrambled eggs and good gallo pinto) but the heuvos rancheros was not good (sauce like from a packet) and the omelette was over filled with brioche bread that was more like a slice of cake. Ein kleines Paradies direkt am Strand, das man eigentlich gar nicht mehr verlassen möchte

Es gibt Unterkünfte, die haben dieses gewisse Etwas – nicht unbedingt groß, nicht übermäßig luxuriös, aber dafür mit so viel Herz und Charme, dass man am liebsten gar nicht mehr abreisen möchte. Genau dieses Gefühl hatten wir im O’Pacifico.

Schon bei der Ankunft hatten wir einen positiven Eindruck. Das O’Pacifico wirkte zunächst angenehm schlicht, aber genau das machte den Reiz aus. Der Parkplatz war sauber und so gelegen, dass wir mit etwas Glück unser Gepäck direkt von dort in die Bungalows auf der Rückseite bringen konnten – eine durchdachte und praktische Lösung.

Doch die wahre Überraschung folgte beim Betreten unseres Zimmers: hell, einladend und mit viel Liebe zum Detail gestaltet. Ein kompakter, aber durchdachter Raum mit einem Kühlschrank, reichlich Haken und Schränken, Lichtschaltern direkt am Bett (was in vielen Unterkünften fehlt) sowie einem funktionalen Bad mit allem, was man braucht – inklusive einer Handtuch-Trockner Zipline.

Besonders schön fanden wir die Sitzmöglichkeiten auf der Veranda mit Blick in den gepflegten Garten und den dahinter gelegenen Pool. Einfach praktisch war die auch von außen abschließbare Tür zur Gartenseite – ein kleines, aber äußerst praktisches Detail, das in vielen Unterkünften fehlt.

Nachdem wir unser Gepäck bequem unterbringen konnten (die Kleiderstange mit ausreichend Bügeln ist übrigens ein Luxus, den man nicht überall findet), erkundeten wir die Anlage des O’Pacifico. Der Spaziergang durch den Garten war erholsam, und als wir die Pools und die wunderschöne Strandzone entdeckten, waren wir begeistert.

Es gab reichlich Liegen, Hängematten und Sitzmöglichkeiten – genug Platz für alle. Was uns besonders beeindruckt hat: Kurz nachdem wir uns niedergelassen haben, brachte uns das aufmerksame Personal unaufgefordert kostenloses kühles Mineralwasser. Diese Geste der Gastfreundschaft hat uns wirklich berührt, da so etwas keineswegs selbstverständlich ist und gerne gegen Bezahlung verkauft wird . Gekühltes Trinkwasser zum nachfüllen steht zudem an mehreren Punkten der Anlage zur Verfügung.

Das Personal war während unseres gesamten Aufenthalts überaus freundlich, zuvorkommend und authentisch herzlich. Abends standen wir vor der Frage: Im O’Pacifico essen oder auswärts? Zum Glück entschieden wir uns, zu bleiben – und das war die beste Entscheidung! Die Küche ist fantastisch, das Essen frisch, köstlich und voller Geschmack. Es war eine wahre Freude, dort zu speisen, und wir hätten uns gewünscht, noch länger bleiben zu können, um mehr von der Karte zu probieren.

Leider mussten wir am nächsten Tag schon weiterreisen. Am liebsten wären wir noch ein paar Stunden oder sogar Tage geblieben.

Das nächste Hotel, das wir gebucht hatten, war fast 100 Dollar teurer, konnte aber in keiner Weise mit dem O’Pacifico mithalten.

Für uns steht fest: Wer hier bucht, macht absolut nichts falsch. Es ist ein Ort, der in Erinnerung bleibt – nicht durch Pomp und Prunk, sondern durch echte Herzlichkeit, durchdachte Details und eine Atmosphäre, die einen einfach wohlfühlen lässt.
