We finally had the pleasure of visiting the Tiskita lodge for a day trip. We did not stay at the lodge overnight, but took a short hike on a guided tour around the rainforest. Rocio was our tour guide. I cant praise her enough for her gracious personality and incredible knowledge. We had our 3 and 5 year old with us and was worried it would slow down the tour, but it was an easy hike and Rocio was patient, kind and answered all of our questions with much detail. We saw howler monkeys, exotic birds, many species of floral and fauna and a magnificent waterfall. She even let us swim in the pool after for an after-hike cool down. The lodge is incredibly tranquil, serene and simply beautiful. If you’re looking for hustle and bustle type of lodge, look elsewhere. If you’re looking for remote location, peaceful atmosphere and absolutely stunning views, look no further because you’ve hit jackpot.

Truly a tropical paradise! This is a family owned and run eco-lodge, with a central open building where excellent food is served (and I am a picky eater) and people can gather before excursions. Tiskita is high enough above the shore that there is a breeze and no mosquitos. They make their own delicious chocolate bars from trees grown right there: farm to bar! This is one of my favorite places in the world. If you want a Marriott, do NOT come here. If you want to feel a part of the jungle, do. You can get here by road-- a 10-hour drive from San José-- or you can fly in to their tiny grass runway (kept cropped by the horses there) on a small plane. Magical!

Amazing place to stay. If I could give the service more than 5 stars I would. My group arrived unannounced in the middle of the night due to travel complications and broken cell phones (we had made reservations for that day, but were unable to communicate that we were going to be late), and two staff members were there ready with a golf cart to help us transport our bags and one member of our party who has trouble walking. At the end of our stay, when we had to catch a 4am taxi, the staff drove our items from our lodge to the main reception area for us. The staff went above and beyond the call of duty, even helping us communicate with the car rental company we were using, scheduling us a taxi, and helping us coordinate a domestic flight back to San José. Every single member of the Tiskita team I interacted with was kind, patient, and very good at what they do.

I stayed in the Toucan lodge. The rooms were beautiful, with bathrooms that manage to be outdoors and still private. One of the most memorable parts of my stay at Tiskita was watching the hummingbirds in the hibiscus bushes just a few feet away during my morning shower. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Note that the rooms are somewhat open-air; the sliding doors that open onto the porch are not sealed around the edges, so ants and tiny lizards do make their way into the rooms at times. Definitely don't leave food out. The view from the rooms is INCREDIBLE; I could look out over jungle canopy onto the open ocean from the front porch, and watched capuchin monkeys and agoutis (they look like small capybaras) outside my window. Definitely bring earplugs for the howler monkeys, who are active around 4-5am.

Tiskita offers a wonderful variety of outdoor activities, from sprawling hiking trails by streams and fruit orchards, to guided nature hikes, boat trips, and surfing lessons, to beach access, a pool, and a stunning yoga practice area. We only stayed there two full days, but I could easily have spent a full week there and found plenty to do. Heads up the roads leading to the lodge are unpaved and pretty bumpy, so if you are renting a car to get there try to get something with a little more height than a standard sedan.

Staying at Tiskita is a magical and unparalleled experience that I would recommend to any nature-lover. Can't wait until my...

We spent 2 nights at Tiskita and we really loved being surrounded by all of the jungle. It was an amazing setting with abundant wildlife. We saw so much wildlife, and even more on our rainforest guided walk with the lovely Rosa (squirrel monkeys, lizards, white face monkeys, vultures, agoutis, acoutis, butterflies and so much more). The description Rosa gave helped us to understand the environment so much better than had we have just wandered off on our own. She told us about their life cycles and their development, their biology and their habitat in such a great way. ||It would have been nice to have been informed about all of the hotels activities on check-in so we could have organised our time a bit better. We weren’t aware there was a night walk we could attend until about 5 minutes before it was going to start, at which point it was 8pm and we had already changed, but if we were told in advance, we would have prepared ourselves to be ready for it. We also didn’t realise that the food was a set menu - with set dining times. It would have been good to know this before too, as one member of our party missed several meals due to surfing for most of the day, so we would have preferred to just choose some light snacks throughout the day instead. ||All of the staff were really friendly and clearly eager to please. Tiskita lodge was a lovely stay, but not quite the luxury we had anticipated; perhaps through our own fault or perhaps through some marketing that makes it appear more luxurious than it is - don’t get me wrong, it’s beautiful, but you’re paying for the setting and Rosas expertise more than...
