Beautiful place to disconnect yourself and be sorrounded by nature!
PROS:
-The tents are pretty spacious and comfortable (nice bed and sheets!), with a nice private bathroom, and at night they remain cool to sleep.
-The shared kitchen is fully equipped and always super clean.
-The hosts are the best! super friendly and really make you feel welcome! They also give you a lot of great recommendations for activities!
The rest of the property and its sorroundings it's just magical, nature everywhere! All kinds of monkeys and birds, you got them here!
The beach in front is huge, perfect for long walks, and the water is warm and calm.
Despite being in the middle of the jungle, there were almost no bugs in the tent or the kitchen!
CONS:
-Maybe I would have liked better/more lights in the tent for the nights, there was only a tiny light bulb and another one in the bathroom, but I understand the power constraints.
-The tents are very close to the road, and to our surprise, it's a really busy road in the early mornings! It's nice to wake up to the sound of monkeys, not to the sound of the cars in that bumpy road right in front!
-The tent's interior was always above 95% humidity, so nothing really dried and everything started to smell after some days. This is not the lodge's fault, it's just that the area is really humid, but just have this in mind.
-It's amazing to have hot water in the shower of the tent, but the water pressure it's just very weak. So you can only use it when the water pump is activated for a couple of hours at night. And even so, it's still weak, so you only get scalding water, or cold water. It would be nice to be able to regulate it more, and have better water pressure all day. But again, I understand the power constraints.
All in all, it's a fantastic place to disconnect for a while, and just relax and enjoy nature! Just be aware of the kind of place that you are going, it's truly isolated! There are no stores, supermarkets or restaurants nearby! The roads around here are in really poor conditions. There is no electricity (only solar energy or generators), so there are some constraints with that. Internet is very limited as well. For these kind of constraints, perhaps the nightly rate is a bit high, as you are paying the same as an hotel that wouldn't have these limitations. But hey, you don't come here to be in front of a screen. You come here to enjoy nature, and you can definitely do that here with comfort! Highly recommended! Thanks for having us...
Read moreWhen I was staying in the area at another property and having a terrible experience (long story) I had panic googled other places to stay and found Four Monkeys up the road. When I arrived they immediately treated me with kindness, I think I literally asked if I could hug them since it was so nice to be treated with such kindness, and they showed me to my eco room. It was super adorable. It was glamping at its best. Completely safely screened in (lots of crazy wild life in the area) so you got to feel like you were sleeping out in the middle of the jungle without the worry of any of the too wild while sleeping creatures getting in. Which was so cool! Nice large bed and clean sheets. ||On top of that they had a really nice private bath with a rainfall shower with hot water and all the amenities attached to the room. It was nicely kept, modern and well lit. This is open air but honestly it was lovely. ||They also get good cell service which is hard to find in such a remote area so I got to catch up with some family while I was there! ||I was in the middle of a yoga teacher training and came back to Four Monkeys on the later side the evening I stayed and they even made sure to keep there water pump system on till I got back so I could have a nice hot shower with good water pressure! ||I know they have a shared kitchen and other cool highlights! But since my stay was so quick I didn’t use it. I am sure it is also great if it’s up to the standards of my room.||Added bonus the beach they sit on is untouched by human intervention and is amazing. The water is perfect and great for surfing if you are into it! ||The osa is wild, remote and untouched. It’s beautiful! It is about a half hour drive to town down a rough dirt road so just keep in mind you are off grid. If you do rent a car I highly recommend getting a large suv with 4 wheel drive otherwise you might have some trouble driving in and out. There are great beaches and waterfall hikes in the area.||But if you are looking to bounce around to hotels to bar hop this month not be the right fit! Also if you do want to by groceries, snacks etc.. I would hit that up on...
Read moreThe location is absolutely stunning right by the beach and the lodges/tents are basic but have the essentials. They stay dry throughout heavy rain are nicely decorated and each have electricity but no Wi-Fi or phone signal this is available in the communal areas though, there is no hot water and the shower is more of a high up tap, each lodge has a toilet but it is open to the outdoors and bugs. ||What made our stay somewhat disappointing was that they only accept cash payment and we found getting cash out in the area really confusing and difficult especially on a Sunday when all local banks are closed. We ended up driving around for about three hours trying to get cash out which meant that we had to drive the slightly challenging roads to get to the lodge in the dark. Once we arrived by 7 checked in and unpacked we also found that the shared kitchen had closed at 8 and all food was locked away. There were lots of rules to follow like not being allowed to use hair dryers or straighteners, shoes only allowed to be worn outside, no eating after 8, no eating in your tent, no hot drinks outside the communal areas that close at 8, it felt a bit restrictive .||Also depending on the kind of holiday you’re looking for there is very little to do once we’d visited Corcovado national park that you can only do on a booked tour with a guide that you organise yourself (which is amazing I highly recommend) the nearest town is very small and not much there in terms of things to do. You can hire a surf board from this accommodation but there are no lifeguards or even other people by the beach so it’s not very safe even if you’re a confident surfer as there can be rip tides or other unforeseen risks. We ended up finding ourselves a bit bored and checked out early which was disappointing given all the positive reviews I read...
