EYA Natural Tourism — Hotel in Río Nuevo

I am a relaxed bird watcher and nature lover and this place was just what I was looking for. It is near a small village that is off the main circuits and the cabin I stayed in appeared to be the only tourist accommodation in the area. I certainly saw no other tourist during my four nights here.|The place is managed by the owner and his wife, both generous and enthusiastic people. Esteban, the owner, is keen about birds and has learned all the local birds’ names and calls and knows where they congregate in early morning, so the spotting and photographing was amazing.| Esteban has also worked hard to create a beautiful garden with many types of trees and bushes, many of which are labelled, like in an arboretum. The garden has many bushes that attract birds and I got some superb photos just sitting on my terrace. The property backs on to a mountain river.|The food is excellent and copious. It is presented with all the elegance of a Michelin starred restaurant.|My cabin contained a comfortable double bed, en suite bathroom with shower and a covered terrance with a comfortable sofa. There was no AC nor fan, but being at some altitude and close to the river, the room was naturally cool at night.|WiFi worked well and I could stream videos from my bed!|My only regret was only having booked four nights.|Incidentally, I did not hire a car but used private transfers. Ein wirklich schöner Ort. Für uns das Paradies, unseres Costa Rica Urlaubs 2022. Esteban und seine Familie sind einfach klasse und super Gastgeber. Wir waren im Februar 2022 hier. Das Wetter war super und es gibt viele tolle natürlich Plätze im direkten Umfeld zu den Wohngebäuden der Farm. Vielleicht 1 Kilometer entfernt hat uns Esteban mehre kleine Wasserfälle mit natürlichen Pools gezeigt, vielleicht 500m vom Bungalow weg ist ein toller Fluss mit einem wirklich schönen Flussbett in dem man je nach Wasserstand ganz gut wandern kann. Außerdem gibt es einfach wahnsinnig viele Vögel und vieles mehr zu bestaunen. Das Essen was wir jeden Tag von Yeilin zubereitet bekommen haben , war auch mit das beste was wir in Costa Rica probieren durften. Der Wein den Esteban auf seiner Farm herstell, schmeckt sehr gut. Es wird einem sehr viel geboten und das alles in einem eher kleinem Kreis. Die Unterkunft an sich war einfach und komfortabel. Teilweise Bestanden Teile der Wand des Bungalows nur aus Moskitonetz somit hatte man eine wunderschöne Klang-Kulisse beim einschlafen. Das muss man aber auch mögen. Esteban und seine Frau Juri sprechen recht gut Englisch, man kann sich also trotzdem ganz gut verständigen. Mit spanisch ist man aber auf jeden Fall etwas besser unterwegs, da kann einem Esteban dann auch mehr erklären. Unsere Köchin sprach leider nur spanisch, war aber recht flott mit dem Übersetzer unterwegs, die Kommunikation lief also auch mit ihr super. Im großen und ganzen sind alle sehr bemüht das man hier ein Paar schöne Tage verbringt. Wir waren leider viel zu kurz hier, werden also auf jeden Fall wiederkommen. Die Anfahrt ist etwas holprig, aber für einen geübten Fahrer in einem normalen Fahrzeug zu machen. Man darf aber keine Abkürzung nehmen, wenn man von der Pazifikküste kommt. Hier sind wird die Straße irgendwann nur noch für schmale Geländewagen befahrbar und teilweise sehr steil.

Klare Empfehlung, für uns war es...

We really loved this place. Esteban with his wife, daughter and anyone we met on the visit are great. You have to visit Victors coffee plantation, great views, a lot of information for coffee lovers. At the EYA Ecolodge we tasted a lot of traditional cuisine, great hibiscus vine Esteban is making, and we just love the nature around. You will be better off with 4x4, but we did it with our rental yaris car. So...
