This B&B is a circa 10 minute drive from the airport. We booked the double with private bathroom and our room was spotlessly clean with nice bed linen. Interiors a bit worn but hey, seems every mid-range place in San Jose is the same. Common areas nice but the real wow of this place is the garden and pool area. Lush garden with hammocks - it’s crazy to think you’re in the middle of San Jose!||||The owner was very personable and the free breakfast was nice. Many say that Alejuela is unsafe at night. We can’t comment as we got a taxi straight there and then went to bed. There are many takeaway places close by so if you arrive in the evening then getting a take-out pizza seems a good option, save wandering about feeling a bit wary. A very kind family staying at the hotel had done just that and gave us some leftover pizza; having arrived late after a long bus journey, we were so grateful we didn’t need to trek outside!||||Tip; if getting the public bus to San Jose from Monteverde, it stops at the airport first and then goes on to Terminal 7-10 in downtown San Jose. I had no idea it went to the airport (the bus websites are pretty vague) and we couldn’t alight there once we’d realised as our luggage was in the wrong compartment. So we added an hour of unnecessary journey time to our day 🙈. Terminal 7-10 is in the red light district of San Jose so jump straight into a taxi if you do arrive there. We made the mistake of wandering around looking for food and a couple of people stopped us telling us to be careful.||||All in all a convenient stay for...
Read moreWe had a 2 night reservation through Hotels.com, that were booked 8 months ago. We showed up yesterday to checkin, concluding our 2 week visit of Costa Rica & planned on chillin for 2 days before flying out. That's when the nightmare began. Upon check in the wife told us there was a problem that the Superior - multi bed room was already occupied. So she calls her husband, who tells us that he no longer works with Hotels.com since Februrary, ( we booked in November). He said that it didn't matter that we had confirmations through the booking company, that we didn't have confirmation through them. Now we're mad, does he think we're idiots & this is our first time traveling... He gave away our room, & could careless. They said they had a 1 bed room but only for 1 night, we were 3 adults. We started exchanging some heated words, because the husband was treating us like idiots. He actually thought the excuse of, "Uh... You don't really have a reservation because it was only confirmed through the booking company, and not through us" excuse was going to work. We finally left, & went to the Marriott a couple miles away, a couple dollars more, but man well worth it. The La Villa B&B is a little hick run dive, in a bad neighborhood, run by a couple "Hills have Eyes"...
Read moreThis a very basic hotel with few frills, so don't expect the Ritz. You pay for what you get. Most people I would guess spend one night here while waiting for a flight or arriving late. It is not really a place you would hang out at, as there is very little else to do close by. Having said that we booked two rooms and the rooms were clean and reasonably sized (not that big). There was a decent breakfast and the manager was friendly. Even gave us an old SIM card he had when we asked where to get one. There are actually quite nice ground around the hotel and a little pool that we did not use. One thing to watch is that our taxi from the airport had very little idea of how to get there. Overall, a good if brief stay (we actually came back the second time we...
