Hotel Uran — Hotel in Rivas

The positives: it’s super close to the entrance to Chirripó and they allow you to leave your car while hiking and provide breakfast to go with snacks and juice which was a pleasant surprise regarding how much you get. The negatives: they provide breakfast to go but they give it to you the evening before without providing a refrigerator or coffee in your room. This is a food safety hazard as depending on when you’re starting your hike, your food could be at room temperature for many hours. We were disappointed not to find coffee either. We asked the bar and they gave us two tiny capsules that only provided an espresso size shot of coffee. The reception is not open until 7 in the morning so if you need something early you’re out of luck. We went searching for coffee before our hike around 5-6 am and nothing was open. For a hotel that primarily serves hikers, we were surprise they are not open earlier. The employees were also not friendly at all. They seemed annoyed that we wanted to eat dinner there (we were the only ones in the restaurant/bar) and provided horrible service (never once checked on us, we had to go find them to get anything and pay). We ordered pasta and the portions of our food were the smallest we’ve ever had in Costa Rica, the pasta was meh, and ghetto bread was burnt. This is the best hotel I’ve ever been to in Costa Rica. The staff was incredibly helpful. I had just finished a 17 hour hike to the cerro chirripo and came into the restaurant 1 hour after they closed. I asked for food and was initially told no as the cooks were cleaning up the kitchen. One of the workers came back after I had sat down and offered to make me a spaghetti. I was so pleased!! I hadn’t eaten the whole day and he decided to stay later so I could eat. I also rented an extra night from them and let them know I had to leave at 6 am. There was an issue with the parking gate and someone from their staff had to manually open it. Someone from the Hotel Uran team offered to come in early to accommodate me. On top of that they prepared me a to go breakfast as breakfast starts at 7 which I would end up missing. This staff has gone above and beyond to help accommodate me and this is exactly the kind of service every hotel should have. Great job Hotel Uran you really set...

Very convenient place and very well located to do the ascent of Cero Chirripo, which was the purpose of my stay, to be able to do it in one day.|I would say that my room was very basic, simple, just what you need a clean bed with a clean bathroom, though the floor was not so clean, but I didn’t care, as I wasn’t expecting more for the price and the location.|But the food served all day long was really good, with a very large choice of meals and at a very decent price.|The manager is really helpful and explains everything.|You may be aware before coming that the final road/track to arrive at the hotel is very steep and a 4 wheel car is highly recommended, specially when it’s downpour like during my stay there.|So I would really recommend this hotel to visit Chirripo National Park, and of course very nice location surrounding by green Costa...
