Finca Lucky — Hotel in Sámara

The listing here looks great in photos, clean house, pool, close enough to town. Unfortunately the space is quite run down and the owner makes your stay quite unpleasant. Our family has been traveling and staying in monthly rentals for two years now, this is by far the worst spot we’ve stayed.

The furniture and kitchen are very old and half broken. One bed literally broke on us, exposing rusted screws. The other bed our children were sleeping in was cracked and splitting in the same place, the owner refused to reinforce it. She fixed ours by drilling a 2x4 in the side of the bed and then trying to charge us over a hundred dollars.

The owner made our stay very uncomfortable, blaming us for odd things. At one point the property flooded and water had to be shut off for a couple days because she accidentally left the watering system on. The rest of our stay she kept telling us to use less water and that we were wasteful.

We left the house early to avoid the owner and paid the weekly cleaner directly. She was stunned how much we paid her, come to find out the owner had been skimming money from the local woman who cleans. No wonder she kept stressing we pay her directly.

We lived in this wonderful place for 2 months. We saw Congo monkeys, toucans, hummingbirds, squirrels and many others. The large clean pool has always pleased us, although there is an ocean nearby, 5 km away, to which we rode mountain bikes. The owners of the house are very polite and always help in everything.
