Staff amazing (certified naturalist can answer questions and show you all the owls and birds in the extensive grounds and he can advise on trips and tours throughout the area). It's a friends and family operation and everything runs like clockwork. We stayed 2 times. Once in older room facing the pool. Lovely and clean with coffee maker, plenty of storage, and great AC. Once in newer room in the back of the property. This room had sliding doors to a perfect patio and (1st floor), a k-cup style coffee maker, a refrigerator, and direct access to the gardens for birdwatching and frog-spotting. WIFI was excellent. I put in an 8-hour workday with several video calls and ran many operations on my VPN while my teen son streamed videos - only one time did I drop for a few seconds! As good as my WFH service in Boston. airport shuttle in a new and well marked van - about 15 to 20 (depending on traffic). UBERs easy and cheap to from airport, mall, restaurants (average ride Maybe 3-5 USD. Be aware that street in front is busy.... You could walk probably 10 mins to some mini-markets, bakeries, etc in day time but I wouldn't walk after dark or with little kids. All rooms are to the back of the very large property and you will not hear street noise at night with AC. You will hear planes, but they stop mostly before bed time. Breakfast (incl) is super. Two choices each day, plated fruits, and self serve delicious CR coffee. We ate at inhouse restaurant one evening. Food was good and a great convenience for when you are tired.

Hotel Robledal is a small, quaint, gated facility situated not far from the San Jose airport. It does have a shuttle to transport you to & from the airport, if needed. Just call them. The hotel is not walking distance to any stores or shops. It is set back out of the way to focus on the beauty of the environment. The grounds are clean and well maintained. There is a courtyard with hammocks to relax on. There are three buildings of rooms. I stayed in the building in the back overlooking the courtyard. It was newly renovated, and very clean. Our room had 3 twin beds. See the pic. I had never been in a room with such small beds. I don't think they had any more rooms available with two beds. My room did not have a telephone, I did find two channels on the T.V. that were English-speaking. The breakfast was hot and delicious. The selections were few, but the food was all freshly prepared. The fruit was kept nicely covered, so the insects would not get to it before you. The staff was courteous and most were able to communicate in English. There is a swimming pool and hot tub on site, but I didn't get to use them because of our schedule. My only complaint which is kinda big was there was absolutely no water pressure to take a decent shower. I ended up turning off the shower and using the faucet for the tub to take a kinda bird bath/shower. The water flowed better from the bottom faucet than from the top shower. Other people we talked to had no or very little water pressure either.

I stayed for 3 nights for bird watching. The announce tours on their web page. I checked/in and they told me that their Guide had holiday. OK, New Year, but this could have been announced on their web page. So, now I have to kill 3 days without any bird Guide. But the girl in the reception was helpful to arrange a car and Driver for me. She contacted the Guide and we booked one tour on the last afternoon. 15 minutes before take off they come to my room and ask where I had booked the Guide. There was no Guide available and I was not happy. But I was welcome to walk around the garden! I have flying around the world, 12 hours time difference and I do not go through that to walk in the garden. If they had announced this on the web page I could have stayed in the mountains to look for birds. In my booking it says desk and sitting area. Well, there was chairs on the patio and the restaurant to sit. But not in the room. Someone used the chairs on the patio as a drying rack for clothes. I went to complain, there was not room for anything in my room after having brought in my suitcase. I told them that I did not care about any sitting area. But I need a desk for my lap top. They changed my room and I got a small desk that I could use, but it was after 6 o’clock in the evening before I was settled in my new room.

This hotel is rated officially at two stars in CR, but that does it a bit of a disservice. I stayed two nights ant the beginning and end of a log birding trip and was well received, lodged and cared for both times. ||It is clean, comfortable and generally very well maintained accommodation, if you are not looking for super luxury decor and amenities. The beds are comfortable, the AC works and the property is safe and secure. All the staff with whom I dealt were very kind, courteous, helpful and caring. ||If you speak any Spanish, they appreciate the effort you put into it but for most get along well in English.||The restaurant food is good. Camerones al diablo is a good pick for dinner if you like spicy sauce/soup and rice. (Good enough that I had it a second time.)||The grounds are lovely, well maintained and alive with birds, if only mostly the usual suspects. Still, the Cinnamon Hummingbird visits every morning and owls are not unheard of. I didn’t use the pool, but it looked well maintained. ||All in all, not super-luxury, but not at all shabby. Avery good choice for a single traveller, couples or birding/naturalist types. ||The owner, Emmanuel, is an excellent guide to local birding spots, as well as a most courteous, companionable and intelligent businessman.||I have no qualms in recommending this...
