If you love cockroaches and tarantulas in your room and rude staff, this is the place for you. We had such an unfortunate experience at La Tigra Rainforest Lodge. I experienced less insects in my accommodation when I was camping in a jungle in Colombia. My two friends and I were so looking forward to our rainforest lodge experience (which we had booked months before arriving), but we were treated poorly by the staff, given a room that isn’t even listed on their website, and ended up with cockroaches in our bags from our room.||On the La Tigra website, they describe their “10 rustic tent cabins [which] are located on raised platforms with ample balconies”. They don’t, however, describe the very rustic cabin that we were given (and we are people who camp and are not needing luxury accommodations). Details are below:||- Room #3 (toucan room) - #1 and #2 would also be similar|- wooden cabin with small balcony (no hammock, no mosquito netting)|- away from the main resort area (seems to be almost an overflow area)|- one foot off of the ground (not on a raised platform with views) with an unfinished wood plank floor with gaps between planks and the jungle directly below|- large gaps between the walls and the roof|- we encountered over 15 cockroaches in our room, including in our bags|- a massive spider was on our ceiling every night||Communication with staff:|- we were laughed at when we asked about the spider and told “you are in the jungle”|- when we complained about the cockroaches we were also told “you are in the jungle” and laughed at by the manager|- we (unfortunately) waited until our last morning to look on their website and confirm that our room wasn’t even advertised. When we asked about this, the manger replied that we should have realized this when we arrived and it was our fault for not doing so (again, we had booked months ago, and tend to trust that we would be given a room advertised). We were not given so much as an apology for the wrong room or insects||DO NOT STAY HERE and support these...

Our stay at La Tigra Rainforest Lodge was truly a highlight of our Costa Rica trip. Having visited multiple places across the country, this one stood out as the most memorable by far.

The food at La Tigra is simply amazing, with each dish crafted with care and attention to detail. From the quality and diversity of the menu to the beautiful presentation of the plates, it was a culinary delight at every meal.

Our room was beyond amazing, boasting a stunning view of the jungle that made us feel like we were in a dream. Not only were the rooms impeccably clean, but we were pleasantly surprised to find warm water—a luxury in the midst of the rainforest.

The entire experience felt surreal and truly special, something we know we'll never forget. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, taking the time to explain everything clearly and ensuring that our every need was met. Their genuine hospitality made us feel right at home.

One of the highlights of our stay was the frog tour, which we had the pleasure of experiencing twice—once in rain and once in dry weather. Each time was a unique and magical encounter with Costa Rica's incredible biodiversity.

The journey to La Tigra was an adventure in itself, with the scenic drive requiring a 4x4 vehicle and a leisurely pace. But the anticipation of what awaited us at the lodge made it all the more exciting.

In conclusion, La Tigra Rainforest Lodge surpassed all our expectations and left us with memories that will last a lifetime. It truly was the most memorable stay of our trip, and we can't wait to...

Would stay again! Exciting experience to sleep and wake up to the sounds of the jungle. The accommodations are what I'd describe as jungle glamping. We had solar-powered hot water and one power outlet. No WiFi in the room. It was basic, but sufficient, and we loved it.. We had a queen plus a single size bed in the room, plus a balcony with 2 chairs, table, and a hammock for one. My ONE complaint about the rooms is that they smell strongly of mold, esp the bed sheets and pillows and hammock. I imagine that's a constant challenge with the humidity of the jungle, but unpleasant nonetheless. No matter, we stayed for just one night in late Dec 2023. The charm of the location, the walking trails on the property, the garden, the included breakfast, and the FANTASTIC night tour (only $15 per person) of the grounds more than made up for it. On our 60 minute night tour, we were given flashlights and guided by a local biologist through gravel paths along the lush garden and man-made ponds, where we encountered colorful frogs, stinging ants, poisonous caterpillars, stick bugs, bioluminescent moth larvae, baby turtles, spiders, crickets, baby frogs, tadpoles, and more. Highly recommended for kids and adults of all ages. Reserve Night Tours only in advance on the property

Definitely for those who seek adventure or just love being outdoors. This place is magical and the people who run it put a lot of heart in what they do. The food is fantastic (from the garden) and very reasonably priced (plus free breakfast). They have many trails and are things to do like night tour, cooking classes and planting a tree. The rooms are perfect and the view was amazing. I barely got bit by any bugs (however, do bring bug spray). The only downfall for me is the showers didn't get hot, but it was worth it for the experience. Definitely a great place to go if you are looking to make a stop before heading to La Fortuna or on the way back from La Fortuna to San Jose.

Most authentic rainforest lodge experience! Direct view of the rainforest from the cabins and great amenities like pools and trails. There were plenty of options for breakfast and the dinner menu was great too. The room was equipped with mosquito nets and the bathroom had outlets to charge mobile devices. The staff was so helpful and friendly. I celebrated my birthday here and the staff was kind enough to bring out pancakes decorated with the words “Feliz Cumpleaños” on the plate. Will definitely be coming back here soon!
