If I were to describe Mango Valley in a single word, it would be “peaceful.” The porch of our cabin had a great view of the Poas Volcano. The grounds are very pretty and there was a banana tree in bloom right outside of our door. We loved sitting on the porch in the morning and drinking the coffee they provided. My step-son did some bird watching on the grounds and added several new species to his life-list there. The hosts, Maite and Jose, made us feel like we were visiting family instead of staying in a rental. The included breakfast was delicious and so was the coffee & juice each morning. Maite ( the owner) speaks good English and she & her husband Jose offer excellent advice on what to visit in the area and when to go. We were set on visiting the volcano our first day there, but they talked us out of it because of the cloud conditions. They sent us to La Paz Waterfall Gardens instead and we loved it. The following day the weather was clear and we had a good trip to Poas Volcano. Our cabin was very comfortable, with plenty of hot water(that is not always the case in Costa Rica) and a comfortable mattress. The décor is rustic, but the room was extremely clean. When we go back to Costa Rica, we will definitely spend some more days at Mango Valley. If I had a complaint, it would be that the road to the location is rough and very bumpy, but that seems to be the norm in much of Costa Rica. Mango Valley is a good value for the money and I...
Read moreComing from Toronto - We stayed here for 2 nights about 2 weeks ago and liked our stay. We booked for another 6 days because the nice views and affordability. However, this time around, there was a very heavy stench of SULPHURIC GAS. My entire family experienced headaches, dizziness, severe breathing issues, burning of the throat, burning of the eyes and non-stop sneezing. My wife started to get intense lung pain. I had to check-out due to this emergency. After doing some thorough research, I discovered that this location is what scientists call a 'low-lying valley' beside a recently more active Poas volcano. The poisonous gases from the volcano are directly coming down into this valley and getting trapped there. This is a very dangerous place and not at all healthy. I sincerely believe this place should be evacuated right away. I attempted to get a refund for at least 2 nights, but the general manager declined - honestly I couldn't care less - to save our lives I can spend $300 to get out of there! Travellers BEWARE of the severe health risks. I observed other people coughing as well but they didn't realize what was happening to them. As soon as we got out of there, our symptoms became better right away. Save your health, do...
Read moreStayed here for a night in 2016 with one of my best friends. We were the only ones there at the time apart from the gracious owner. One of the most serene places on Earth, and it was built by the same gentleman that runs it. I took a very affordable taxi from the capitol to the jungle while listening to Bob Marley and smoking the local cigarettes with the windows down. The views and sounds of the jungle are unparalleled. Awesome infinity-esque pool and there is a great affordable restaurant very close by, which basically cooked exclusively for us since it was just us there. There is also a three story gazebo structure nearby which makes for a great setting to enjoy a bottle of wine or two. As far as nearby attractions, be sure to check out the volcano and also the market in the nearest city, which you can take a very affordable bus to. I recommend at least buying some great coffee to bring home (ask around for the best brand. I'm sure the Mango Valley coffee is great too). Unforgettable experience....
