Thank you Lolo for your peaceful slice of heaven. We had a wonderful 5 night stay at Mikado Lodge. It is a little out of the way but worth getting there. It still puts you within easy reach of nearby Avellanas, Negra and Blanca beaches and more (short drive to Tamarindo, Conchal, slightly further to Nosara). It's so nice being out in the hills with very little artificial light and next to no noise except the wildlife. Despite daytime temps of 40 degrees, the room was manageable with the windows wide open. The air conditioning could quickly cool the room in the evening and when the temps drop to the mid 20's it was perfect with the windows wide and the insect screens shut. We were woken in the morning by the haunting call of local howler monkeys but the sound-proof doors could easily block this out of you want. At the time of visiting (Feb 2024) there was a small family of 7 or so monkeys that would traverse nearby trees. One morning we were treated to the full cohort cruising past very close to our terrace. Lolo is an incredible and generous host. She went out of her way for us on several occasions and we are truly grateful. She serves a mean breakfast and, if you request a day or two in advance, a delicious dinner too. There are also tons of options for eating out within a 25 minute drive (recommend having a car).

We just arrived home after a 14 day stay at Mikados. We have previously stayed at some of the large all inclusive resorts. What a great breath of fresh air is Mikado and Lola, the owner/host/chef. Mikado is located in a gorgeous jungle location full of animal and bird life. Every day we would spot more beautiful birds and monkeys with their babies. We never tired of sitting on the wonderful veranda watching the sun come up and go down. The cabanas are very private and luxurious. With a beautiful rainshower and a stocked minibar, a king bed and what more could you ask for. The property is gorgeous with a infinity pool, where there is never a rush for loungers. Oftentimes we were the only ones at the pool. There is a nice walking path around the property as well. And last but certainly not least is Lola, the wonderful host. She will do anything to make your stay special. Breakfast and dinner was always amazing. She is always there to see if you need anything. She makes great cocktails and always has suggestions for other restaurant options. All in all a very great, relaxing experience.

We loved our stay at Mikado Lodge! It is an incredible property in the middle of the jungle. The room and deck were lovely as you feel like you are in the tree canopy with the sounds of howler monkeys, cicadas, and views of deer and so many species of birds. Bring your binoculars! We enjoyed the pool time, the little trail on site, and the troup of monkeys that came swinging through the trees through in the morning. Aside from the beauty of the nature, everything is just so polished and well-taken care of. It is clear that a lot of thought and time has gone into the design and care of this boutique hotel. The owner, Lolo, was a gracious and accommodating host. She whipped up some delicious meals and was so sweet with our one year old. Playa Avellana is close by so you can go from jungle to beach in about 15 minutes! We would definitely stay there again.

If I could give Mikado and Lolo (our host) 10 stars, I would. The hotel grounds and bungalows are very well kept. Lolo was so accommodating to my partner and I. She helped us book a reliable taxi driver for our whole stay. His name was Emmanuel and he was very punctual and friendly! Lolo is an AMAZING cook! My boyfriend and I reserved dinner at the hotel for almost our whole stay there. She cooks you an appetizer, entrée and dessert! Her breakfast is also fantastic. Lolo recommended a couple different towns/ beaches that we went to on our "lazy days" when we weren't doing a tour. Our favorite recommendation from her was Rio Celeste. If you're wanting to do an activity, we recommend doing the Rio Celeste hike to the waterfall. That waterfall is so beautiful it seems unreal. We booked a private tour through papagayo tours to go to arenal. The tour included seeing the famous arenal volcano, a hike to see some sloths and other incredible animals, another waterfall hike, going to a hot springs resort and having lunch and enjoying all of their hot springs and pools that they had. The drive to arenal and rio celeste is quite breathtaking. I love the intimate family vibe that you get from Mikado and Lolo, I prefer it over the busy all inclusive resorts. Lolo made us feel very comfortable, and was so helpful that she made our stay here nothing short of incredible. I HIGHLY RECCOMMEND staying at Mikado. You will not be...

Our stay at Mikado Lodge was an absolutely unforgettable experience! From the moment we arrived, we were embraced by an atmosphere of serenity and well-being, far from the hustle and bustle of tourism. This true haven of peace, nestled in an idyllic setting, offered us moments of pure joy and relaxation.||||The location is simply perfect—secluded just enough to enjoy tranquility and nature, yet only a few minutes away from the most beautiful beaches, Tamarindo, and various activities. Every sunrise and sunset was a spectacle on its own, with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.||||The facilities at Mikado Lodge are of exceptional quality. The beautifully landscaped gardens add an extra touch of charm and reflect the meticulous attention to detail.||||As for the cabins, they were simply perfect! Spacious, bright, and impeccably clean. Every detail was carefully thought out to make us feel instantly at home, like a luxurious cocoon in the heart of nature.||||Finally, the warm welcome and kindness of Laurence and her small team played a big role in making this stay truly memorable. Always available, attentive, and full of great advice, they made our experience even more special.||||If you are looking for a place to disconnect, recharge, and enjoy a magical retreat, Mikado Lodge is a must-visit. One thing is certain—we will be back without hesitation!||||Thank you again for this...

My family rented three bungalows at Mikado for three nights. It was the best place to finish our Costa Rican vacation! Luxurious accommodations include very clean rooms with comfortable king-sized beds and a lovely terrace overlooking the jungle. The bathrooms are spacious with beautiful showers, all the towels you need, screened in but open air so you feel like you are outside.||Common areas include a comfortable sitting area with games and books available, a spacious dining area, the pool, a hot tub, a nature trail that circles the property. ||The property itself is amazing but what made it truly special for our family was the way Lolo made us feel welcome and cared for. She opened up her kitchen to us on our first night so we could cook some fish we had caught. We really appreciated that! || Lolo and her helpful assistant Lia prepared and served a beautiful breakfast each morning that included fresh homemade yogurt, granola, and bread, fresh fruit, eggs to order, juice, coffee and tea! We prearranged dinner to celebrate a birthday and Lolo didn't disappoint, serving a wonderful fish dinner and a beautiful birthday cake! ||We had a great time hanging around the pool, enjoying the natural beauty, the birds, monkeys, very large grasshoppers and toads. It was so great to share this place of beauty with my family and our new...
