Where to begin...||||First off, Alfonso is an incredible host and resource. This was apparent before I even arrived there as he went the extra mile promptly providing clear instructions and details pertaining to my stay, literally providing bus schedules and maps. When I hopped off the bus, Alfonso was there at the gate waiting for me.||||I decide to book the glamping tent. This was my first glamping experience, so I wasn't quite sure how it would go. Well, I have to say, I definitely made the right decision. It was rustic, yet amenities had a high-end feel to them. Here are some of my favorites things about the glamping tent experience:||||- Gorgeous view of the farm below and Turrialba and Irazu volcanos yonder.||- Perched on a hill close to many trees for excellent birdwatching from the deck.||- Pour over coffee maker to brew the farm's homegrown coffee every morning||- The shower has hot water & provides an open air view of the volcanos.||- Very comfortable bed and pillows with extra blankets.||- Good water pressure in the bathroom.||- Bathroom sink and toilet with dual flush is brand new and works well.||- Bathroom stocked with eco-friendly soaps.||- Hot water showers.||- Ample lighting that can be moved to where you need it.||- Battery recharger for all your devices.||||I was there for three nights and really enjoyed my stay. My mornings started with fresh brewed coffee with a view of horses grazing and bathing in the farm below. I would enjoy spotting birds until Alfonso brought up breakfast which was very hearty and delicious. ||||After breakfast, I would go down to the river. Once I jogged, the other I took my time soaking in the sights and taking many photos. The round trip distance is about 5.6 miles with about 1300' elevation gain. I found it perfect for both getting in a good workout or a relaxing walk with some uphill to get the blood moving. I also enjoyed the fact that the trail is essentially a dirt road providing all the scenic beauty of the forest without the danger of running into pit vipers or other dangerous elements. It was also great to have your own section of the great Pacuare river to explore as you see fit. ||||As I didn't have a car, lunch / dinner was provided by a local restaurant. Alfonso provided the menu and handled the ordering (and delivery a few times as it was raining). The food was pretty tasty and generously portioned.||||For activities, I went horseback riding and birding. We were going to do a night tour as well, but i was there in the rainy season and it rained every night.||||The horseback riding was very cool. Alfonso took us on some off trail routes and provided a detailed tour and history of the farm. It is a solid operation focused on eco-friendly farming and tourism. I was impressed with Alfonso's knowledge of organic and ecological farming techniques. We even got a sample a freshly cut cacao fruit which was delicious!||||The birding tour that Alfonso arranged was top notch. The guide was Cali from Cali Tours and that guy was amazing. He didn't just know birds, but was well versed in botany, etymology and wildlife as well. In total, we identified 57 species of birds, spotted sloths, several butterflies, frogs, spiders, many plants, etc. I learned quite a bit on that tour.||||When it came time to check out, I was sad to leave. It was definitely a special part of my Costa Rica trip. This is the place to go to get an intimate Costa Rican experience without that touristy feel. Alfonso truly cares that you have a great experience on his farm and it is a breath of fresh air...

The horses were very calm, perfect for beginners! ||||I also did a longer tour inside the property to the River Pacuare, running through mountains covered by tropical rainforest, which offers one of the most spectacular views I have seen in Costa Rica. From there it is very easy to spot houses of an indigenous village that is located on the other side of the river.||||Alfonso is an amazing host, very passionate about nature and conservation, he showed and explained me many species of birds and plants from the area, including one of the biggest flowers in the world that has unique healing properties. ||||The cabin that I slept in was clean and had very comfortable beds, and what's important WiFi was working really good so I could finally do a videochat!||||I hope I can come back...
