During our last trip to Costa Rica we found that the lodge we usually stay in Turrialba was fully booked and we were forced to find a new place. Lucky us we found Hotel Villa Florencia. We stayed in their master suite and upon seeing the beautiful property, spacious porches and family games available at the seating areas my parents decided to stay in the same hotel. From the second we arrived the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, Adriana, the chef, cooked us some amazing breakfasts and was always up to the task of making us delicious cocktails, the staff even made arrangements for a fabulous dinner party with my parents and a few of my local family members. The hotel has so much charm, the property was established in 1925 and I am pretty sure the main house was built circa that year. Even being that old, our suite had a giant tropical bathroom with a huge Jacuzzi tub, a beautiful large front porch with pool and mountain view. My parents room was located in the newer building and it was very spacious and very modern but a great porch overlooking the back garden and mountains. The hotel itself is hidden from the main road but we found this was to our benefit; we saw Oropels and their young nesting, we took fantastic photos of Tucans and got to go outback every morning to see what the resident sloths were up to. If you want to experience a bit of relaxation, friendly service and bit of wildlife I recommend Hotel Villa Florencia. We will most...
Read moreWe stayed in Villa Florencia for 3 nights to visit Turrialba region on our way to the Caribbean and had a really nice time. The hotel is the typical Costa Rican experience where you live with the nature. It begins with the majestic tree that welcomed us at the reception of the hotel. This one is the host of a colony of Oropendulas birds that were building their hanging nests during our stay. It was an incredible show all days long. |The owners and the staffs were really nice and helpful. They helped us organize various activities such as our visit to the Guayabo archeological site with a very nice guide (Karen), who I would recommend. The visit of the Nortico chocolat plantation with Anna-Laura is also a must and was the favorite activity of our kids.|Carlos, the gardener of the hotel, nicely gave us a tour of the garden and showed us some of the funny fruits he has planted.|Breakfast and food at the restaurant was nice. The restaurant been open air, plan your repellent if you don’t want the mosquitoes to bother you in the evening. Been in the nature also means insects, and we could see plenty different species around, including lovely butterflies that were just outside our balcony. The window of our room had a net to prevent the insect inside. The bedroom was very spacious for the 4 of us. Everything was clean and working fine. The ceiling fan was sufficient for the...
Read moreWe stayed at the Hotel Villa Florencia while visiting our daughter who is studying abroad in Turrialba. This place is a gem! The grounds are beautiful, colorful and full of birds and butterflies. Our room was good size, clean, quiet and with a balcony to take in the gorgeous views. The pool is relaxing and again the views! We were treated to coffee and fruit grown right on the hotel grounds. The morning breakfast is a must and included. We went with traditional Costa Rican breakfast of eggs, toast and of course rice and beans and it never disappointed. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful and patient with us as we don't speak Spanish well:) We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and wish we could've...
