This is absolutely the best hostel I've ever stayed in! It can be a bit difficult to locate since it's on a smaller back street. However take tram six, use Google maps, and you can find it easily. As soon as you walk on the property, you notice the calm and welcoming atmosphere. The outdoor kitchen has a canopy of grapevines. If you are lucky enough to visit when they're ripe, they're delicious! Igor and all the other hostile workers are genuinely friendly and invested in helping you have a good time while you're in Zagreb. There's a five page document that they've prepared with suggestions for food and drink as well as local activities. We went down the street to a local grocery store to get what we needed for dinner etc. Everyone was just hanging out in the kitchen area, eating, chatting, or just scrolling on their phone while enjoying the cool breeze. We shared food with other travelers, played some card games, and had wonderful conversations with people from around the world. If you're looking for a party hostel, keep scrolling. If you're looking for a hostel that makes you feel like you're at home, Mali Mrak is the place for you. Honestly, the only thing we did was go to a park to see some abandoned world war II bunkers and have a nice picnic by a pond with small fish and a few turtles. We have been traveling for 40 days now and this was just what we needed to recharge our batteries and get us ready to go out and explore. Thanks guys! 😀

Immediately when i saw the photos and reviews of this hostel I know that it is the right place for me. As opposed to the more packed hostels in the city center this one has a communal vibe. Since the day i came everyone greeted me and engaged me in conversions. I stayed there for a week and a half and I hanged out with a bunch of people from the hostel. The owner is a really cool and smart guy, ready to help you with anything. What makes the hostel special is also how it is decorated, paintings, murals, ornaments from the past and mementos of people that have been there. I also really like how he hanged around photos of some physicists, philosophers, writers, an homage to giants. The rooms are also spacious and clean and comfortable. I really felt like this is a place where I could stay for a loong time and fell at home. P.S. The rules are to be respected or else... :D!

One of the best hostels I have ever stayed in! Friendly atmosphere, comfortable beds, great showers. All of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful - after a long train ride we were greeted with cold glasses of wine and fresh watermelon! Igor, the owner, is a font of local knowledge, and a really great guy to chat to. The outdoor kitchen is well equipped, the two dogs are very friendly (especially if you have food 😅). Every wall is covered with spectacular artwork from previous guests, and as a bonus there is excellent Turkish-style coffee every morning. Easy to access from the main train and bus stations via tram. 11/10 would *highly* recommend to any and all weary travellers 💕

When you are traveling it's hard to find a place that makes you feel at home, where you are comfortable and surrounded by nice people. I just needed a few minutes in Mali Mrak to realise that it is a special place, with a magnetic aura and a beautiful atmosphere. After spending some days in the hostel I can highly recommend it if you are looking for a calm environment fulfilled by interesting and cool people that will be up to share meaningful conversations and moments with you.

About the building itself, the rooms are cozy and the bathrooms are very clean. Cooking in the outdoors kitchen it's a pleasure you cannot experience in many other places. Furthermore, the whole place is full of art and beautiful decorations, which makes it a very unique place. Also, the staff is nice and helpful, and try to provide you with an experience that fits with your travel preferences and expectations. Don't hesitate to ask them for recommendations!

I really enjoyed my stay there and spending time in the common areas with other travelers and the staff. Without a doubt, my experience in Zagreb has been so exceptional in part thanks to Mali Mrak. Thank you Igor and Conrad for making...

By far my favourite hostel I've stayed in, I doubt there is a better choice to make in Zagreb.||This hostel has a really beautiful energy to it from the moment you walk in. The bedrooms are covered in 'love-letters' to the hostel, from previous travellers, and you instantly know you are in a good place. The facilities are spotless and Igor was an excellent host - going out of his way to give fantastic recommendations and answer all questions. ||Though it was March when I stayed and the hostel was quite empty, everyone I met was so pleasant and it's definitely very easy to make friends at the hostel. It seemed like a great choice for solo travellers especially. Lots of really cosy common areas to hang out in and socialise. Furthermore, while hostel stays tend to tire me out a bit. here I not only slept very well but felt like I was staying at friends, rather than a booked stay.||Finally, I would not worry about the location being farther out than some other hostels. Connections into the city are really good and frequent (just one tram or bus to the center, without needing to change). If anything it adds to the feeling that you are staying at a home and...
