I had to give it a few days before writing something. We got back 6 days ago and the whole family have the post holiday blues. It wouldn't have been so bad if the holiday was a bit disappointing but the truth is, it was truly incredible. I read another review saying the real hero is the location and no, they're not wrong. The island is just perfect but the staff deserve credit too. Without the staff the whole experience would not have been as memorable. The hotel is clean and the rooms are pretty good. We shared our apartment with our two teenage kids so maybe not ideal but we were more than happy with it. It was on the ground floor with a patio that led to the water about 10 meters away. The water, omg the water. Its crystal clear with loads of fish swimming around. Maybe buy a snorkel before you leave as you might regret it if you don't. Also some water shoes are a good idea because there are loads of sea urchins and not all beaches are of the sandy variety. The food in the hotel is awesome. Breakfast is all help yourself to freshly cooked pancakes, cheese, meats, cereals, croissants etc. Then the friendliest and most polite waiters will ask you how you would like your eggs or omelette. You can then get tea or any variety of espresso based coffee. The lunch menu is great too although to be fair we didn't really need lunch too often. Dinner was a bit more or an event and again the food is delicious. Also worth a mention is the bed! Its super comfy and you are guaranteed a good nights sleep. Also, its not busy or crowded. I'm too old now for holidays with nightclubs and partys. Katamota is serine and tranquil, its perfect. Also there is a great ferry service to Dubrovnik (30mins) that is quick and cheap. I was expecting some small boat but it was a proper big ferry with air conditioned seating area inside. Dubrovnik is a great place to visit a few times and stock up on essentials like milk and water or whatever you need. maybe some bug spray and sun cream. To sum up (cause this has gone on for ages and well done if you're still reading), if you're considering a holiday at Kalamota Beach House on Kolocep island I'd urge you to just do it. I can't imagine anyone would consider it disappointing. They seem to use the line "Embrace the island life" in their advertising and i think thats perfect. It is life on an island at its very best. Sun, sea, great staff and beautiful surroundings. Just go for it,...
Read moreI so wanted to give this hotel 5 stars as this is an immaculate and special island hotel, beautiful location, the rooftop pool, the weather, the friendly staff and activities locally and all that was indeed fab, but, the food here let it down a little for us (a family of 4 with two tweens) staying 10 nights. |Breakfast (that was included) was fine (with eggs to order but missing family faves that I would have expected like eg french toast) but it was lunch and dinner that was lacking. The hotel aims for fine dining which is not what you want every night for a family. And it wasn’t nice enough to be truly fine dining if that’s what you did want. The restaurant was quite often empty showing they don’t have it quite right. There is a kids menu but there are 4 choices, pizza being one which is dependent on the boat bringing the supply which it regularly didn’t. |For lunch we genuinely struggled to be able to order anything that we liked which was really disappointing for us. |The rooms do have a small kitchen to help solve the food issue. Dishwasher was a welcome luxury! And microwave and hob. But where to buy your ingredients! There is a tiny shop on the “Tui” side of the island - a doable 15-20 min walk or hotel buggy ride (for E20 charge tho). But it’s “entrepreneurial” prices and very limited fresh produce. |The only real choice is Dubrovnik. The ferry from the island (either the early morning ferry from the hotel bay or the later ferries from the TUI bay) take you to Gruz port in Dubrovnik in about 30 mins. Just outside the harbour is a large supermarket. Strongly advise buy all you can carry to stock up and which allowed us to cook meals and snacks without breaking the bank. But it is an effort! |Otherwise there is a restaurant opposite the hotel but it’s limited, simple but fresh and mainly fish. Not cheap and cash only! Also a nice cafe restaurant on the TUI side for a change of scene. |We did have a wonderful time and we truly loved exploring the island and Dubrovnik. We felt very looked after and the staff were so welcoming. |Our favourite activity was a quad safari - booked through TripAdvisor - at Kojan Koral - which is a simply epic and we all agreed our...
Read moreKalamota Beach House is an absolutely wonderful experience! I've been twice now and I adore the place. The rooms are very nicely appointed, the private outdoor spaces are super cozy, the rooftop pool is amazing and I cannot say enough about the incredibly helpful and friendly staff. Everyone that works there is so thoughtful and kind. The hotel restaurant has fantastic food and we really enjoyed the breakfast buffet, omelets and coffee. I want to thank Valentina, Sinisa, Abicheck, Darko and Sidhart for their wonderful service. You made everything about our visit very easy and welcoming.
I do have a few recommendations for the hotel owners. Both my companion and I are handicapped and we had several items that we thought of as essential to truly enjoy our stay. The stairs from the outdoor dining area and up to the hotel entrance need to have a railing installed. Putting a railing in the center of both of these steps would make handicap access so much easier and would not be overly intrusive to the feel of the hotel. Both my friend and I struggled with the bathrooms, since there is a 3 cm step down into the bathroom from the hallway. Not really sure why this is necessary. Also, the bathrooms could use at least two grab bars, one near the toilet and one in the shower. My friend felt that the amazing views were obstructed by the plants, although I could see why having the foliage the way it is provides privacy for patrons.
Lastly, since I was here last year, I can compare the music in the dining area to the previous year. It is vastly improved! While I love 80's rock as much as the next codger, it was wonderful to enjoy our delicious meals while listening to the lovely jazz that is being played now.
Again, thank you for a wonderful time. I hope to see you...
