Faded glory...
It is a beautiful situated, spacious hotel at the entrance of the Krka national parc. We had a comfortable room and a good bed. There is good wifi in the whole hotel. They have a great pool and nice outside area where you can relax in both the sun and shade. The bathrooms are a little dated but functional and everything was clean. We found most of the staff is friendly and professional, except for one hotel manager who had a condescending demeanour (mostly towards women).
Unfortunately we experienced several discomforts during our stay.
An major comfort improvement would be to add a small fridge to the rooms. But is seems an intentional decision not to place a fridge in the rooms as the hotel minimarket sells chilled drinks for a steep price. These were the most expensive minimarket beers we have seen in the whole of Croatia.
Unfortunately, the tv had very poor image quality. Everything was so grainy that it felt like we were watching tv in 1980.
On booking.com the hotel offers 20% discount to Krka parc, in reality you only get 15% discount and the hotel keeps 10% per ticket. When friendly inquiring about the difference with the advertised discount the reponse was defensive right away.
The breakfast buffet was fine but the coffee exceptionally bad. While a beautiful barista coffee machine stands in the breakfastroom, this coffee was not available to guests in the morning. The available coffee came from a cheap machine. It smelled and tasted terrible (not suitable for consumption). This was not fitting to the price and style of the hotel.
Upon first glance the 'cocktails' advertised at the pool seem friendly priced. However, they are not cocktails but pre-mixed drinks one could also buy at the supermarket. I would not recommend these for 34 kuna per glass, highly overpriced.
One soon learns to be wary of all food and drinks that can be ordered here. It's just not very good value for your money.
To us te hotel made the impression to lure customers with an atmosphere of luxury but upon arrival you get a feeling that the glory that once was has fleeted. Furthermore, it is just tasteless that everything seemed to be oriented at making the greatest profit with the cheapest goods. One could see past this if you were made to feel at home, but that was not what we found. The rude hotel manager left quite the impression. First time we experienced this in Croatia.
However, if you want to have a jump in the pool, sleep, quick breakfast, visit the park and be on your way it will work for you. Just make sure to have diner elsewhere. We were here four nights, would not...
Read moreThis is a bit of a hotel of extremes. The goods are really good and the bads are really bad.
First the good part.
The location is unbeatable as long as your sole purpose is visiting the Krka National Park. The receptionist who handled the check in process was pleasant and efficient enough. The AC worked really well. The room is generally clean... for the most part.
Despite what some other people here have said about the food, the breakfast buffet was decent. There were 4 different kinds of cold cut meats, 4 different kind of cheese, 3 different kinds of hot sausages, eggs hard boiled and sunny side up, 6 different kinds of bread, and a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. This was the first time I've had enough veggies to eat in Croatia so my health thanks the hotel's food services staff.
Now the bad part.
The toilet seat was 27 inches off the ground. Was this toilet designed for professional basketball players or something? The wooden toilet seat was rotten. Extremely gross. The toilet took 3 flushes to get rid of a single piece of toilet paper.
And the toilet wasn't the only thing that was wrong. The shower stall... the door latch or whatever mechanism that keeps the shower stall door closed was missing. To prevent water from getting out I had to hold the door closed with one hand at all times.
The nearest place where I could hang a dry towel is at the opposite side of the bathroom from the shower stall. It is 2 meters (6ft) away and I had to step out of the shower stall dripping wet making the tiled floor wet and slippery to get a towel to dry myself. Have you heard of ergonomics?
And the problems didn't stop with the bathroom. One of the balcony doors was only attached to the frame by one hinge. The door almost fall on top of me when I tried to open it. I fixed it for them because I didn't want to bother with switching rooms after I've unpacked. Same door, it was supposed to have two curtains to keep the light out. Only one was present and it was not hanging from the railing all the way.
Bedding. There were two beds in the room and only one blanket. The closet contained a random collection of pillows, sheets, and other various bedding that may or may not fit the beds. But only one blanket. Housekeeping opened my door to enter my room at 8am to clean it when I was still in bed!
Wifi did not exist in the room.
3 star hotel my foot. Whoever are in charge of housekeeping and maintenance in this hotel are clearly incompetent or indifferent. On the contrary, the lobby and restaurant staff seem great...
