Good: absolutely stunning location. amazing old stone swimming "beach". resort itself is a really nice idea and smartly designed affordable accommodation that is fairly low maintenance good (fairly slow, but ok) wifi all over the island
Bad: poorly maintained and operated pool was out of service for maintenance for 3 days in the height of the season (they had 1 guy power washing it during dinner time right next to the main restaurant) facilities are not built to accommodate the number of guests that can fit in the rooms and tents, so there are way too few lounge chairs and umbrellas at the swimming area, not enough space for guests at breakfast, insufficient staffing at reception to be able to check in guests and answer their questions, insufficient space on the ferry to the island, so it's cramped, hot, and often not on time sunset kayak has to be booked 2 days in advance once you're on the island, so if you're staying for 2 nights you're out of luck really bad water damage in the main restaurant building, and bad mold and dirt on many of the tents. The indoor units were pretty clean, although possible they were just newer advertised laundry service on hotels.com doesn't exist advertised complimentary water craft (SUPs, kayaks, etc) are not complimentary, and have high rental rates (15-30 euro/hour). This seems silly and scammy when nearly everyone on the island is a paying guest and the crafts are mostly just sitting unused in the height of the season, and SUPs cost like maybe 150 euro to buy outright. water taxis from obonjan to other islands exist, but are way overpriced. 150 euro to get to Kaprije or Zirje, and for the same exact service reception will charge you 200 euro. Another scammy experience that seems unnecessary. Better would be for the resort to hire their own dedicated boat driver to drive guests to and from other islands for a more reasonable fee massive amount of trash on the West side of the island that the resort seems to have just ignored (or perhaps is adding to?) This seems like an eco disaster. Definitely should be...
Read moreI have recently returned from a two-night stay at Obonjan with my 11 year old daughter, as she wanted to go on a glamping holiday. We selected the Glamping Lodge S and we were placed close to the sea in cabin 37. I will try and give constructive advice for anyone thinking of staying here. In my opinion, it's a great place to come with kids - it's safe and secure, kids can spend their days meeting other kids, jumping of the multiple mini-docks, paddle boarding, participating in the various kids activities. I can't imagine coming here without kids though :) I can imagine that could cause anyone to contemplate a separation!! It's not a romantic place for sure, the glamping beds are comfortable, but the canvas walls are stained with mould and in our case, needed replacing, and you really have to be vigilant as we were to keep everything closed, to avoid any bugs entering, this is nature after all - but of course, the 'lodges' felt claustrophobic with the canvas doors zipped closed, so not really for anything other than sleeping at night.||The staff were not friendly or helpful, i'm afraid. There seemed to be a lot of them, doing very little at all. Many hovering around at breakfast time, but not clearing plates whilst wasps attacked almost every table. There was very little 'good morning', how are you. Training seemed to be at a minimum. Not even a 'how was your stay' at check-out. My feeling was that the staff had figured out by asking that question would open a whole can of worms.||It's been reviewed before - but this island/concept could be really great, and it almost is, depending on your rate. Any more than 200 euros a night seems absurd - around the 150 seems fair for camp lodges. The breakfast is fine, the buffet dinner is awful. the island maintenance seems a major issue. Lots of trash around, empty cups/ glasses not picked up from the day before near the beach. It's screaming out for great management - c'mon guys - you have a great thing, with lots of revenue coming in -...
Read moreArriving to Obonjan: 10/10 the staff is very nice and welcoming Accomodation: 4/10 our glamping tent was really outdated and missing basic facilities Housekeeping: 0 - nobody comes to clean, you get no fresh towel or bathroom amenities unless you catch some member of the staff and grab what you need. Beach: 5/10: 20 or 30 years ago it must have been a perfect beach. But since then no renovation was performed. Do not believe the photos on the website! Getting around on the island: 2/10 (see below) Breakfast: 7/10 Dinner: 6/10 Staff: 6/10 (they really do their best to save the tragic situation of the “resort”, but obviously the are untrained, mostly teenagers with no hotel experience.
The location is unique and beautiful, could be a real gem. But this is almost the only strong point of Obonjan absolut lack of management No conception No wifi Insufficient facilities, gravel roads and many trash all around, paths are not designed, only accidentally stepped “roads” everywhere No gym, no fitness option No housekeeping No telephone connection to the reception/services Resort level prices but service level of a 2-star camping Hippie feeling - but 5 star hotel prices The dinner on Saturday was excellent - but on Sunday you meet the leftover again. And on Monday the left-leftover :-( Be fast to get a table at breakfast or dinner because there is significantly less place than portions sold - masses everywhere, you almost always have to share your table with other people/parties. Even is you don’t feel like to do. Romantic killer 😅 The restaurant at the beach opens at 3pm (peak season!) - why? The water sport desk was abandoned - no people there to...
