Excellent place I have visited twice and will be coming back when I again visit amazing Velebit mountain. As this is very popular place you are advised to book your place in advance and to select some of the specialties on offer. Food was excellent and service amazing as they were always around us offering us with welcome drinks as well as some locally prepared strong ones later. And they were like this with all guests. Atmosphere can be very nice and you will be seeing people from all over the world indeed. Place to visit to enjoy all your senses. There is large open terrace where we were seating in spring and closed space for our autumn visit. We have visited third time and have again enjoyed triple peka (mixed lamb, veal and chicken with potatoes and other) or traditional way of preparing meat in wood burning oven. There was domestic spirit and traditional bread with cheese. While serving she explained that it was special long enduring bread prepared for husbands who went in Velebit for weeks. And for desert local specialty excellent ustipci (fritter or doughnut) with home made plum jam. I can just repeat my recommendation to visit this place when visiting Velebit. +++ We came back again but this time only 2 so we did not order in advance which is best thing to do. But soup was nice, and meat platte excellent as well as local doughnut with plum jam and that was again very nice supper after one more Velebit adventure.
+++ As we have visited Velebit again we came again and ordered large mixed meat plate and soup as well as excellent ustipak (fritter) with local made plum jam. Service and food were as always excellent. My only issue is awful toillet that have to be renovated at once. But you need to visit this place...
Read moreMy friends and I stayed at Hotel Butina for one night, and it was definitely the most memorable place we stayed at in Croatia! ||||The house really encapsulated the 'rustic' look. The dining area, along with the grill, is outside underneath a roof extension and consists of hefty wooden benches and tables that wouldn't have been amiss in a medieval banquet hall. Hay bales act as a wall on one side to prevent you falling into the sloping goats pen! A few dogs run around loose as do some ducks and the odd goat that breaks free of its pen, adding to the feeling that you are just staying at someone's farm!||||The rooms were lovely, clean with comfy bedding and balconies overlooking the wooded mountains. The en suite bathrooms were also clean and quite spacious. ||||The food and hospitality were the icing on the cake though - the hosts were so friendly and insisted on making us drink the local 'Schnapps' (very strong liquor) as a welcome when we arrived, then when the main owner arrived and then before dinner...!||||The food portions were epically sized and yummy, traditional Croatian fare - lots of cheese and meat. The cheese was especially good, it helps to have your own goats, perhaps! The bread was like cake in texture, making cheese and bread suddenly the most interesting meal ever!||||A final bonus is that the bear sanctuary is just down the road - run by volunteers, this place takes care of orphan bears and you can get really close to them. One of the volunteers will normally guide you around too - we had one whose English was excellent and she was very informative. ||||Definitely do come stay here, if you...
Read moreWe are two Hong Kongers, coming here for the Bears. Saw this high scored hostel in google map and decided for 1 night stay, ended up in 2 nights.
It was the most impressive stay in Croatia because of the homey and local experience. The host (Grandma) speak Croatian and German, with very limited English. But it’s not an issue as we have Google Translate nowadays. For one day Grandma’s daughter was here with us too and we chat a lot about our culture and she recommended many nice places to visit in Croatia. You don’t expect a 5-star luxurious hotel experience but it’s very homey and adorable. The first room we stayed is clean and got a village feeling. The second room is more luxurious and modern. Both are very lovely! Very clean and got all you need. Marvelous view!!! Food - so good! Honestly I didn’t know how much they cost when I ordered. They simply asked me if I take dinner/breakfast or not and I said yes, and you can tell them what you want and they cook. Love every food they make and a lot of ingredients are homemade / from friend’s farms❤️ They will get you different menu everyday too! Price for 2 breakfasts and 2 dinner, for 2 person is around EUR80. 👍🏻 You are here for a home stay and enjoy the lovely house and environment they’ve built. Also 10 mins walk to the near. Definitely...
