We needed a hotel to break the trip between Split and Zagreb and thought Hotel Gacka sounded perfect.||||It looked charming, a large building and a smaller building near a lake and a ruined older building. I found someone who spoke English and he said they were having a party for bank employees and there would be loud music until the wee hours of the morning, so they were putting us in the smaller building instead of the main building. || ||We took our bags over the bridge to Room 1 and found a tiny room with two twin beds, each up against a wall. I returned to the main building and asked if they had a room with a large bed in the small building and was told no, so we got settled and sat out on the porch for a while.||||I had been told that the party was to begin at 8PM, so we went into the restaurant at 7PM to avoid most of the noise. The band was setting up and practicing. Shared a trout carpaccio which would have been good if they hadn’t poured tons of cheap balsamic vinegar on it, then trout with mushrooms and trout with almonds. Each order was two trout, but we managed to finish them, plus the grilled vegetables, all of which were good.||||When we arrived at the restaurant at 7PM, we requested that the heat be turned on in our room, which was very cold. When we returned to the room two hours later, it had not been turned on. We returned to the restaurant and asked again. By 10:30 it still had not been turned on. My bed was under the overhead light, but there was no overhead or reading light at my husband's bed, so he couldn’t read. We wrapped ourselves up in our blankets and went to sleep. We were awakened by voices outside at 1:30AM and again at 2:30AM. A terrible night.||||We went to breakfast and found on our table a platter with six slices of cheese and six slices of ham. The waitress brought over glasses of orange juice which was water with a bit of orange coloring. The scrambled eggs and coffee were both good. We couldn't...
Read moreIvan and the team here couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant to deal with. He helped arrange a guide for a day's fishing on one of the most incredible trout rivers, which can be accessed literally just out the front door. Crystal clear water means that you can sight cast to beautiful rainbow trout. One day on the water certainly wasn't enough!!!||||The only thing that was able to pull me away from the fishing was the incredible food served up by the hotel's kitchen. Everything I tasted was delicious and sustaining after a long day out on the water. ||||The room was basic, but clean and comfortable with a nice firm mattress. You're not coming here for the amenities in the room anyway. ||||A very easy and scenic 2hr drive from Zagreb Airport. ||||I will certainly be returning in the near future with a larger group of friends. Highly recommend, especially to...
Read moreA pleasant surprise to arrive at this beautifully renovated hotel on the banks of the River Gacka with gorgeous grounds and a large spring right on the property. The scenery is magnificent and sorry I wasn't prepared to spend a day angling for the big trout for which the river is famous. Suggest you wander a few kilometers upstream to the large spring that is the river source as truly an amazing crystal clear large river that flows for only 11 km from source to sinkhole. Beautiful dining room on lower floor with excellent food. Staff were very helpful and chatty and apparently are excellent anglers dreaming of trips to Montana...
