Amazing house in the village of Bast, set on a hillside with an absolutely stunning view over Baška Voda — just about 15–20 minutes from Makarska. Honestly, the distance is nothing, and getting to any of the nearby towns was super easy.
The house itself makes a big impression — you can spot it from the road thanks to its beautiful blue shutters and that classic, old stone-building vibe that fits perfectly with the local architecture. Matejas, the host and owner, was fantastic — he welcomed us with snacks, drinks in the fridge, and a seriously well-equipped place.
The house has two pools — one outdoor and one indoor with heating — plus a sauna, three bathrooms inside and one more next to the grill area. The covered grill spot was perfect, and Matejas even brought us extra firewood when we asked. Under the grill shelter there’s a TV, which is actually the fifth TV in the house — each bedroom has one, plus there are two more in the living/dining areas downstairs.
The kitchen was fully stocked — not just with gear and dishes, but also with loads of practical extras like garbage bags, baking paper, and other cooking basics. Compared to what we’ve seen in places like Corsica, this was next level — the French could definitely learn a thing or two from this incredible Croatian setup.
Communication with the host was easy and quick — if anything came up, we could reach out no problem. He also rents out a second house right next door — even more old-school, with green shutters — you’ll definitely notice it. I’ve included a few photos so you can get a feel for the area around the house. It’s seriously something else.
When you arrive, you’ll need to walk a short bit uphill with your bags, but that just adds to the charm — tight passageways between stone houses, total old-village feel. None of that fake modern stuff that’s popping up everywhere.
One of the best things? A hiking trail runs right past the house — you can head out in two different directions and explore some really stunning, scenic routes. It’s a huge bonus if you like nature walks or a bit of adventure.
From this house, you can also easily reach a bunch of amazing beaches along the Makarska Riviera — we visited at least six different ones, and the area is just packed with beautiful spots that will stick with you for a long time.
And just about 20 minutes from here, you’ve got the incredible Red Lake — one of the deepest sinkhole lakes in the world. There’s also Modro Lake nearby, and a bit further, the Green Lake — all of them make for a great local trip.
Also highly recommend checking out the Skywalk in Biokovo Nature Park and making your way up to the summit of Sveti Jure. The options for day trips from here are endless.
The host also gave us some great tips for places to eat — one standout was a restaurant in a nearby village where the owner actually sent a car to pick us up, and then dropped us back off after dinner. No need to use your own car — a really cool experience and such a kind gesture.
Absolutely amazing place. We honestly felt like our stay was way too short. Definitely coming...
Read moreThe vacation was – once again – far too short. After a long time, we finally returned to my home country, and it was the first time for my children. That made it even more special, and I’m so happy I got to show them the country while staying in such an amazing house.
The house is perfect for families. It has everything you could wish for in terms of luxury – an indoor and outdoor pool, beautiful interior design, and an absolutely stunning view. Truly priceless!
The host was also incredibly kind and helpful. I can highly recommend this place to anyone looking for more than just a place to sleep.
