We were driving between the Plitvice National Park and Dubrovnik out of season mid October. Through choice we were travelling on minor, inland roads but had also been diverted due to road works so we were a bit behind schedule. I think the areas through which we were travelling had suffered during the Homeland wars and still seemed sparsely populated. We were looking for somewhere to stay and had been watching roadside signs promising an upcoming restaurant with rooms but never did find it when we came across the Motel Jankovic with a huge empty car park. It was just what we needed and seemed open as there were lights on. I don't speak Croation but the friendly proprietor behind the bar could speak a few words of English, enough to establish that they were open, they could do bed and breakfast and some food for an evening meal. Just then his son came in, who could speak English, and looked after us for the rest of the stay. They mustn't have been expecting any guests as he apologised it would take 15 minutes for the hot water to heat up. We had a large room, beds for 5, with a balcony, a cooked evening meal with drinks and cooked breakfast, all done for a reasonable price. We were the only guests. Recommended...

Recommended a great local restaurant and pointed us in the right direction for filming locations the following day. He even drove us to save time and was sooo kind and supportive. ||Great guy.
