Read till the end! TERRIBLE is an embellished version of the comments after spending the weekend in this horror hotel. Except for the friendly receptionist and the employees who work at the entrance to the pools, I have absolutely not a single nice word to say. The hotel is ancient, absolutely unmaintained, dirty, smelly and I don't understand how it is still open at all, and especially how it has visitors. The rooms are DESPERATE, but really desperate. Very small, one outlet (in our case completely brown and burnt), curtain rods half torn out, hanging from the ceiling, curtains (that is, those pieces of smelly, dirty rags that should be curtains) accordingly. The ceiling light is broken, half of it is missing/fallen off. Unvacuumed floor, dust everywhere. Beds?! It would be better if we lay down on the floor to sleep than this 10 cm of misery that maybe once could be called a mattress, but now it is a pile of material and springs. The pillows are maybe even worse. Lumps of something inside the pillow case. It's an understatement to say that we didn't sleep most of the night. The bathroom is tiny, the door of the shower cabin is torn, the sink is the size for children, as well as the area in front of it - an adult cannot even approach it because there is about 20 cm between the wall and the shower cabin. There is a torn board on the toilet, water from the kettle splashes half a meter out on the floor (or you if you don't get away). NO (heat or sound) isolation. The carpentry is ancient, the room is cold overnight, the front door does not seem to exist, you can hear absolutely everything from the corridor and other rooms, as if there are no walls and doors at all. You go to the pool/sauna no less than THROUGH THE RESTAURANT. The pools are unmaintained, unclean, the water is warm (I don't know if I would even list that as a positive) and it smells like urine. You won't find a place to leave towels, robes, or anything else near the pool or sauna.|The massage, which we were really looking forward to, turned out to be the worst of all. Some man with long hair who doesn't massage at all and doesn't know how to massage, he's a little hungover, he's quite sleazy and it seems he's just waiting for the appointment to pass, he really doesn't know what to do with himself, because he's waiting to get more booze, which he reeks of (and that in the early afternoon!). And some woman who massages with her elbow! Not even a "p" from a physiotherapist, and their knowledge of anatomy is roughly at the level of a two-year-old. So I don't forget, massage rooms are not rooms! It is essentially one large room divided into several compartments with a few low partitions and a poor curtain as a door. Forget about any privacy, the possibility to relax with music or something similar, but that's why you can listen to the conversations of all 10 people who crammed into the appointment which they shortened (the appointments go one after the other, they start late, only when you enter do they set the tables and put the covers and also finish a few minutes earlier). The whole hotel, corridors and accommodation, have a kind of stale smell. The food is really bad. Buffet table for both dinner and breakfast. The choice is poor. Everything is too salty. Baked in old oil, the stench is felt immediately. The cheapest salami that exists. You are lucky if you manage to find water, there is no juice. I regret every penny spent on this, as if someone sent us by punishment. If you really don't like someone, send them here to finish them off. I wouldn't wish this on anyone, it's not worth visiting even if it's free. Don't waste your time, money and nerves.|And don't say I...
Read moreWhere can I start...||Firstly the hotel is very old and in terrible condition. ||Rooms are small, windows old and giving you the feeling of absolutely no safety for your belongings, the color is falling of the ceiling, the balcony is made so that the naighbours can walk in like there is nothing you never have privacy as you literally feel people breathe fron the other rooms. And all together rooms together with corridors are super smelly (i could smell death and cats and rats urine like scent) due to the old carpet flooring. ||(it is not really hygienic because it's super hard to wash it) water pipes are fixed with silver tape. Yes with a tape. Not just in the room but... To get to the two pools they have there, you had two ways. Three actually. One is from the outside. So you have to exit the hotel and enter from the outside. (not an option if you are returning from the pools all wet since they don't have the hairdryers or anything like it.) another is through the dining room. (it is closed though the rest of the day so you only have a chance the change to go to pool during breakfast lunch and diner (which are always the same, cold and using old oil, so it's very tasteless you end up hungry anyway) the other way to the pools is down through a basement. And the basement is full of pipes and looks more like a place only to be used by employees. The pipes are old and completely destroyed fixed with tape. It is dark and very cold also. A perfect scene for a horror movie. All is also super dirty. ||When you enter the pool they have one square pool that is not for small people. (150-180m depth) water is moody, the ties are missing, there are some tiles standing out more so it is super dangerous to walk there, holes between the tiles so you can easily get hurt and stuck a finger in. there is color falling from the ceiling (also in terrible condition, with holes) the outside pool is no different. The environment is in absolutely terrible condition. Some old pool is there left with dried out grass covering it all over. It looks super dirty. ||Massages are unprofessional, I don't know if they are joking or literally doing so much harm on purpose. (a massage can literally harm a person if done unprofessional from a person who doesn't know anything about human anatomy) the massage rooms are dirty and there is no relaxing music or the atmosphere. I could look at the white dirty tiles and shoes of the massager while listening to radio and another worker singing to it terribly. After I didn't feel relaxing or anything only super oily. ||And to top it all on the last day I have read the water is RADIOACTIVE!!! ||how amazing is that??? ||WATER IS RADIOACTIVE and I was there not knowing a thing, worst they know it and ||still use it!!!||||However the staff is super nice and friendly. Read moreAfter seven years we decided to visit the hotel „Matija Gubec“ again. ||First I must stress the overall hospitality of the staff. ||The cleanliness is also ok in the whole hotel & pools.||The rooms are small, but that’s not the problem. However, perhaps a small fridge could be put in. But the wardrobe is without any shelves, and two small drawers are low, at the bottom – very inconvenient for older guests. And in our room the TV set was in a very stupid place on the wall so we couldn’t watch it from the beds and had to maneuver chairs and a bed. ||In the small bathroom the missing thing is the bracket for soap & shampoo in the shower. And also some hooks on the walls would be handy, or even a small shelf.||The big indoor and smaller outdoor pools are very good, with warm water. The opening hours are very acceptable: till 10 p.m. on workdays and Sunday, and till midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Also, aquaerobic at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. is nice, short but relaxing. It is better to go to the pools through the lobby and besides the restaurant over the pool reception (take a bracelet!) than to go downstairs to the cellar, as there are many steps.||I was pleasantly surprised with (new) saunas. There are five, four Finnish and one steam sauna, well kept & clean. And the instructions for use are large enough for everyone to see (and obey!). I am stressing this because previously it was not the case. However, a few chairs or deck chairs would be useful. Now people must go back to the pool between enjoying the saunas or they are just standing around, which might be dangerous as blood pressure can drop after coming out from the heated sauna. And it would be good to offer sheets or towels at the pool reception (for a small fee), so that people do not enter saunas with their own. ||The food is tasty, but with somewhat limited choice. There is no fruit for breakfast. A very good thing is that guests in the restaurant can take a jug or bottle of fresh water to their tables at meals. ||The hotel itself is very conveniently located near the center of Stubičke Toplice and the small town of Donja Stubica, and for taking strolls & trips around.||In conclusion: this is a modest hotel offering acceptable accommodation and recreation for the price.||We...
