El Candil Boutique Hotel — Hotel in Cuba

As we sit in our comfy lounge chairs on the rooftop patio and bar of the El Candil Boutique Hotel, watching the sun set, my wife and I reflect back on what made our eight days in Cuba so amazing and so wonderful. Without question, it was the time spent here, at El Candil, and how we were treated and looked after by our two incredible Concierges that tops our long list of reasons we absolutely LOVE Cuba and can not wait to return.

Yanetxy Geronimo and Rosabel Canovas started taking care of us before we even left Florida, corresponding with us, via e-mail and WhatsApp text messages. Their attention to every detail, no matter how large or small, and their hands-on, personal interaction with their guests/clients, is what sets them apart from every other Concierge with whom I have ever dealt in more than 45 years of international travel.

From taking care of our accommodations at the El Candil, to arranging to pick us up at the Havana Airport upon arrival, to assisting us with USD and CAD currency exchanges---including accompanying us to a local bank---to providing us with EXCELLENT drivers to take us not only all over Havana every single day, but also on a 2.5-hour drive (each way) to and from Viñales, to providing dinner reservations at six different outstanding Havana restaurants, plus an unbelievable lunch in Viñales, to taking care of our laundry, a day trip to Playa de Este Beach, and, essentially overseeing every aspect of our visit, these two wonderful and amazing ladies opened their arms and their hearts, and welcomed us to their beautiful country: Cuba!

The El Candil Boutique Hotel has four primary guest rooms; two with queen beds, and two with king beds. There is a fifth guest room that is generally reserved for the owner, but which can be used for guests when needed. The building, Spa, rooftop bar, small pool, the first floor ding room, two terrace balconies and the grounds are all kept IMMACULATELY clean. And the entire staff, from Yanetxy and Rosabel, to Joseph, the house Chef, Joel, the General Manager, Mario, the bartender, Angus, the gentleman who carries 50-lb. suitcases up and down the El Candil's narrow terrazzo stairs like they weigh nothing, Lesset and the other gracious dining room staff, and Madeline and the rest of the wonderful and attentive housekeeping staff, to Humberto, Frank and MOST especially Ernesto Romero, our absolutely favorite driver, escort and guide, ALL contribute to making a stay at the El Candil a truly five-star guest experience.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at a charming boutique hotel in Havana, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and impeccable service, which truly set the tone for my stay. The attention to detail here is unparalleled, and it felt like every need was anticipated before I even had a chance to ask.

The hotel is beautifully decorated and each room has a unique charm, and the tasteful decor made it feel like a cozy home away from home. The ambiance is calm and inviting, providing the perfect escape after a day exploring the streets of Havana.

One of the standout features of this hotel is its location. Situated just a short walk from the iconic Malecón, it offers easy access to the waterfront, making it the perfect base for those looking to explore the city’s beautiful coastline and nearby attractions. The area felt safe and welcoming, with great dining options at the hotel.

What truly made this stay unforgettable, however, was the exceptional service. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that I felt taken care of. From offering helpful local tips to arranging transportation, nothing was too much trouble.

Wir haben im "el candil" acht Tage verbracht und waren schon wegen der vielen positiven Bewertungen gespannt. Zu finden ist das kleine Boutique Hotel in Vedado, ca. 20 Minuten zu Fuß vom "Plaza de la Revolucion" entfernt. Mit dem Taxi sind es ungefähr 10 Fahrminuten bis zur Altstadt ( el Capitolio ). Kosten dafür aktuell 10 CUC. ||Was uns allerdings tatsächlich in diesem kleinen ( vier Zimmer ) Hotel widerfuhr, hatten wir so nicht erwartet.||||Nachdem uns das über das Hotel bestellte Taxi vom Flughafen abgeholt hatte wurden wir direkt am Eingangstor von Yannetxy und dem Personal empfangen. Schon die Begrüßung hatte etwas sehr persönliches und man hatte sofort das Gefühl willkommen zu sein. ||Nach kurzem Gespräch und check in ging es dann in das gebuchte Zimmer.||||||Zum Doppelzimmer:||...ausgestattet mit allem was den Aufenthalt angenehm macht fanden wir einen Raum vor der ausgesprochen sauber und gepflegt war. Auch bei genauerer Betrachtung ( Ecken oder Nischen ) blieb der Eindruck das die Putzfrau ihren Beruf ernst nimmt.||Ein Bademantel pro Person war ebenso vorhanden wie ein Bügeleisen mit dem zugehörigen Bügelbrett. Flachbildfernseher und Pflegeprodukte gehörten ebenfalls zur Ausstattung. ||Das Bett ( Matratze ) war ein wenig weich, hat uns aber nicht wirklich gestört.||Das Bad war ausreichend groß und die Dusche ordentlich in Schuss ! Die Wassertemperatur ließ sich problemlos regulieren und blieb auch dauerhaft auf einem Level ( haben wir schon anders erlebt ).||Das Zimmer selbst hatte zwei Fenster die genügend Licht herein ließen. Überhaupt haben wir uns in dem gemütlich, antik eingerichteten Zimmer geborgen und wohl gefühlt.||||||Den Abend selbst haben wir auf der Dachterrasse bei einem Mojito ausklingen lassen. Auch hier ist die gute Pflege des Hotels zu erwähnen. Alles ist sehr sauber und man kann sich in den bequemen Gartenmöbeln super entspannen. An dieser Stelle ein großes Lob an den Barkeeper Mario. Wir haben später beim Bummel durch Havanna nur wenige Barkeeper getroffen die es mit ihm aufnehmen konnten. Cocktails von so guter Qualität sind auch in Havanna keine Selbstverständlichkeit !||||||Gefrühstückt wurde auf der kleinen Terrasse die mit ihren vier Tischen für jeden Gast einen Platz bereit hält. Das Frühstück selbst war für kubanische Verhältnisse vollkommen ausreichend und schmackhaft. Serviert wurde grundsätzlich Kaffee/Tee, kleiner Obstsalat und Saft ( Immer zwei Sorten zur Auswahl ). Außerdem Toast, Marmelade und Eier auf Wunsch ( Spiegelei, Omelette mit Käse und/oder Schinken etc. )||Auch hier das Personal sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend.||||||Überhaupt ist der Service und die sehr persönliche fast schon familiäre Gästebetreuung das große Plus dieses Hotels.||Egal ob es um den Geldwechsel geht oder einfach nur ein Taxi benötigt wird. Ob man ein gutes Restaurant empfohlen haben möchte, eine Tour im Oldtimer mit Tourguide organisiert werden soll....die gute Seele des Hauses ist immer für einen da. ||||Abschließend möchte ich deshalb nochmals Yannetxy, die Managerin des Hotels erwähnen. Noch nie haben wir einen Menschen erlebt der so für und mit seinen Gästen lebt. Immer ein offenes Ohr und stehts bemüht auch jeden noch so kleinen Wunsch zu erfüllen. ||Auch wenn es ein wenig abgedroschen klingen mag...aber Worte können eigentlich nicht beschreiben mit welcher Selbstverständlichkeit sie dem Hotel eine ganz persönlich Note gibt.||Für uns waren die Tage deshalb eher als wären wir nach Havanna gereist und doch wieder Zuhause angekommen.||Danke an das gesamte Team des "El Candil".
