We chose the Ivan Chef Casa for a one night stay in Havana based on reviews on TripAdvisor! It did not disappoint, but rather far exceeded our expectations. Our interpreter was a little worried as we traveled through some older parts of town that didn’t appear welcoming, however when we arrived at this beautiful home we were greeted by the manager as we walked up the marble staircase into a fabulously decorated and maintained pre-revolution home. Our bedroom was pure luxury from the bed to the robes and slippers to the chandelier to the marble bathroom to the bath towels. Our hosts were engaging and friendly as they told us the history of the home, showed us the elegant sitting room with vases and artifacts from the Napoleon era, and conversed with us like we were family! The back porch made us feel like royalty as we were served and elegant dinner on fine China with a candle labra on our table. You can’t get this at a hotel! WE TOTALLY LOVED our night here…oh, Ted there was a tummy stuffing brunch the next morning. They got city taxi to give us a city tour (MARLON) and take us to the airport. Hotel service for well under...
Read moreFirst, there are no TV's in any room. There is no entertainment, they charge you for every bottle of water, egg, anything. They give you 1 little thin jail blanket and they make you feel like you are in jail. They lock the doors, even to the pool area after 10pm until they get up the next morning. They rush you to come back to the hotel in the evening so they can lock up. There was nothing to do there, not even any music. There were no suggestion where to go for any night entertainment and it is far from any type of restaurants or food. They had no lunch nor dinner. I became sick because of the dust mites and the AC and left 2 days early. I had to go to the hospital soon as I got back. They would not refund the 2 nights I did not stay. I would not recommend this place unless you want to go somewhere to read all vacation. And, every night bats would fly around the pool. Also make sure you bring bug spray because the mosquitos or something will eat you up. I would never stay there again nor would i recommend this...
Read moreGreat staff, the house is well-built, rooms are indeed (for the most part) soundproof. It's a good place to stay if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but unfortunately the neighbourhood that this house situates and has taken a turn for the worse over the years. It used to be a very high-end neighbourhood from back in the day, but it has degraded over the years. Having said that, do not let the aesthetics from the streets dissuade you from staying here. This is a very good hotel or bed and breakfast to stay in, whether it's for one night, or whole week. Elsa and her staff are absolutely amazing and do the best they can to accommodate whatever needs...
