If you’re planning on a successful adults only vacation in Cuba, then look no further than Melia Cayo Coco. For a bit of perspective, we’ve been travelling to the Caribbean for over 40 years, and vacation 8 weeks each year in Mexico, DR, and Cuba. We were at MCC from June 6th to June 20th. This was our 4th visit here since 2021. I would summarize the resort as follows.

Beach: The beach is simply beautiful, better than anything we’ve found in the DR or Mexico. White sand, very deep, plenty of spaced out palapas, you can walk long distances to the right or left. The water was clear, minimal seaweed, gentle entrance into the ocean.

Rooms: Our oceanfront 2nd floor room offered expansive views of palm trees and turquoise waters. Recently renovated, the AC was clean and efficient, glass walled walk in shower, and Caribbean inspired furniture. The room was clean, bar fridge was stocked daily with pop, beer, and water, and a 110v outlet in the bathroom for all of your charging needs.

Resort: The resort is small, about 250 rooms, efficiently laid out in mostly 8 room villas. Pathways are beautiful, well lit. The gardeners keep everything fresh, beautiful colours at every corner. There’s a quaint Cuban feel to this resort. Charming touches at every corner set it apart from the newer chrome, glass and concrete resorts that are springing up everywhere. Older resorts like MCC picked the best locations when they were built 26 years ago.

Food: We ate at each a la carte restaurant … International, Cuban, and Italian. The food was very good, flavourful and of high quality. The Italian is brand new and a design masterpiece, with beautiful art work, exposed brick, tasteful woodwork, cozy ambient lighting, greenery and even a rooftop outdoor adjoining terrace. The Cuban is in a recently built authentic Cuban wood cabin. Cuban touches abound, from the rustic wood and leather chairs to a large herb garden sitting just off the patio. Talk about a farm to table dining experience! The international sits atop the poolside snack bar, and offers both ocean views as well as sunset views while dining. Speaking of sunsets, don’t miss the chance to have a cocktail off the newly built deck in the billiard bar, located on the edge of the lagoon.

Buffet: we never tired of the bright new decor, or the vast food offerings in the buffet. All of your standard Cuba resorts offerings. So many different hot food stations. The head chef has really stepped up the offerings in terms of flavours, freshness, variety and desserts. My personal favourite was the rum flambé crepes with bananas, mango, and ice cream. Hot food was hot, cold items were cold, and the cooks understand safe food handling practices.

Staff: This is what sets MCC apart. The staff is very well trained, with many career professionals with up to 25 years experience at this resort. And it shows. The staff embrace their roles, and they’re the best assets of MCC. They are warm, welcoming, and efficient. Far too many to name, but we had wonderful interactions with the GM, Bernard, sales mgr Gippsy, Tamara in the lobby bar, Felipe the master gardener, Alberto the mayor of the beach, Jesus king of the beach bar, Ronaldo and Abel on dinner service, Ari and Betty at breakfast/lunch buffet, and Paris in the gym. Each employee we interacted with exemplified the highest standards of hospitality. Far too many to name, these are but a few.

Pool: plenty of loungers and Bali beds. No towel games played here, either at the beach or the pool. Lots of shade, lots of sun. Thankfully, no swimup bar. The pool bar, snack bar, and buffet are all within a 1 minute walk from your lounger. Pool is spotless. Actually, the entire resort is spotless, from public bathrooms to all public areas.

We are in the process of booking a return trip to MCC for this October. If you want to experience an elegant, relaxing vacation at a resort that always consistently delivers the goods, then look no further than...

🌴✨ We visited Melia Cayo Coco for a one-week all-inclusive vacation from Canada in September 2023, and let me just say – it was absolutely outstanding!

We’ve traveled to Mexico and enjoyed it, but this Cuban gem truly stands out for all the right reasons. Here’s why:

🛎️ Service

From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel like royalty. Warm, welcoming, and always attentive, they went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. Their professionalism and friendly attitude made a big difference — we experienced flawless service the entire week.

🛏️ Rooms

Our room was clean, cozy, and well-maintained, featuring a charming balcony with a lovely garden view. Housekeeping came by daily for turndown service, and our housekeeper was always thoughtful and meticulous. It truly felt like a home away from home.

🛜 WiFi

WiFi was available throughout the resort and, to our surprise, very reliable! I had to do a bit of remote work during our stay, and the connection made that hassle-free. Major bonus!

🍹 Reception & Lounge Area

The lobby bar lounge was a wonderful place to relax. Whether it was early morning or late afternoon, the bartenders were always ready to craft our favorite drinks — we especially loved the Cuba Libre (Rum & Coke), a refreshing treat on those hot days!

🏖️ The Beach

Breathtaking is an understatement! The beach was simply paradise — powdery white sand, crystal-clear turquoise water, and plenty of loungers and shaded spots. It was so tranquil that we spent most of our time here, only heading to the pool to cool off when the sun got too intense.

⛵ Excursions & Tours

The resort offers a convenient hop-on-hop-off bus to explore the local town, but we opted for a vintage 90s car rental for a couple of hours (booked at the front desk) — such a fun way to shop for souvenirs! Just a heads-up: shops prefer USD, so bring some along.

The highlight of our trip was the Catamaran tour — a full-day adventure sailing through Cuba’s stunning islands. Swimming with vibrant fish, relaxing on the deck with unlimited drinks, and being looked after by an amazing crew made this an unforgettable experience!

💵 Tipping

We love to tip for great service and brought Canadian dollars with us, but noticed that locals prefer USD. Next time, we’ll come prepared with small US bills for convenience and appreciation.

🍖 Food

The buffet meals exceeded our expectations! We’d heard that Cuban food can be bland, but the dishes here were flavorful and varied. We brought some of our own condiments (ketchup, soy sauce, hot sauce) which was a great idea for a little extra kick.

In the evenings, we dined at the fine dining restaurant, which was phenomenal. Be sure to book as soon as you arrive, as it fills up fast! The food quality, presentation, and ambiance made each dinner a special treat.

✨ Overall Experience

Melia Cayo Coco completely stole our hearts. It’s now our go-to resort in Cuba, and we’re already dreaming about our next visit. The beauty of the place, the kindness of the staff, and the overall vibe made it a perfect Caribbean escape. Highly recommended – you won’t regret a single moment!

🌞🌊🌺 10/10 – See you again soon,...

We have been guests at Melia Cayo Coco end of March beginning of April 2025. This wasn’t our first trip to Cuba but it was our first to the Melia Cayo Coco Resort.

What makes this resort so great in our opinion, first and foremost, are its people. Everyone is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, respectful, helpful and genuinely trying their best to make your stay memorable.

Yudenia from Customer Experience is always there for you and no wish or request is too big for her. She has helped us at all times with a big smile. She is absolutely amazing! Ariel at reception was the first person we have met and we’re glad we did. He is an absolute sweetheart and was able to assign us a room as requested and checked us in fast.

The beach entertainment team was a lot fun every day and we love them all. They do their best to keep the guests entertained throughout the day. Chino, Jorgito, Yanesy(Chocolate Mama) and Lea, thank you all!

At the buffet, we were always met with a big smile and hugs from Kettyleidy, Jorge and Miladis. Charles’ omelettes were amazing and made with the secret ingredient: LOVE and tasted so much better for it.

Eduardo, Hery, Ignacio, Jesus and Jean at the lobby/terrace/beach bars made the best drinks and coffees and they were always prompt and courteous. Miladis and Ali from the cigar shop are so knowledgeable and friendly, we visited them every day. Fun fact: we first met Miladis 11 years ago in Cayo Guillermo; it was very emotional when we all realized it.

The gardeners work very hard to keep the grounds clean and beautiful and always have a smile for everybody (or a hat, or a coconut). 😁 Our room: we had an oceanview, super clean, comfortable and functional room. The maids were great, cleaning every day making sure everything was spotless.

The food: no shortage of anything at all times. We have not seen such variety frankly, anywhere else. All types of meat that you could have on the grill, seafood every day, eggs, salads, pastries, fruits and amazing desserts. All very tasty and fresh.

The beach: perfect! Very wide and clean. White sand, turquoise water. What more can you ask for? More than enough palapas and beach chairs await the tourists.

The resort is not big, which is great thing. Everything is a short walk away. You could tour the entire resort in less than 20 minutes. The resort is also very clean, tastefully decorated and not dated.

We can now honestly say that we found our home away from home at Melia. All in all we had an amazing time and we cannot wait to go back!

Thank you ALL for making our trip a memorable one! We love you! Until next time, our...

A Safe and Entertaining Escape – With a Few Areas to Improve Our stay at Meliá Cayo Coco was an unforgettable experience marked by a strong sense of safety, entertainment, and vibrant personalities that truly brought the resort to life. First and foremost, we felt completely safe during our entire stay. The resort was clean, well-maintained, and staff were attentive to guests’ well-being, which made it easy to relax and fully enjoy ourselves. Whether we were lounging poolside or walking around the grounds in the evening, everything felt secure and comfortable. The entertainment and overall vibe were fantastic — there was always something going on to keep us engaged without feeling overwhelming. What really stood out, though, were the people who made our vacation special. Roberto at the spa gave me the best massage I’ve ever had — truly skilled and professional, he made the experience feel like pure bliss. Waldo at the buffet deserves a shoutout for not only making the best omelettes each morning, but for his warm, attentive service that started our day with a smile. Alberto at the beach is an absolute gem — his amazing sense of humor, beautiful smile, and friendly nature made every beach day brighter. Likewise, Yanelis at the pool bar was a total spitfire — full of energy, charm, and personality. Not your typical server, which we loved! She brought the party to the pool bar in the best way possible. A special mention goes to Prince, the communication manager, who took time to hang out with us and was so helpful and informative. We only wish we had met him earlier during our stay — he made a real impact with his friendly demeanor and knowledge of the resort. While our overall experience was fantastic, there’s room for improvement when it comes to service at the beach and pool. Unfortunately, there was no service in these areas, which was a bit disappointing given the otherwise high level of hospitality. Hopefully, this is something the resort considers enhancing in the future. All in all, Meliá Cayo Coco delivered on safety, scenery, and spirited service — and thanks to the amazing people we met, it’s a trip we won’t forget

What a wonderful place. We have been fortunate enough to visit Cuba 5 times and we were lucky enough to stay at the Melia Cayo Coco twice. 2017 and 2024. What a wonderful hotel and what an amazing location. Please understand that you are travelling to Cuba, a country what has been under an Embargo. So things are very hard to get for the people of Cuba. So yes you might not be able to get a few items at your hotel for a few days but imagine how hard it is for the Local population. So before you criticize your stay, remember you’re going to a country that has had a hard time for the last 6 or more decades. The Cuban people are very friendly and wonderful hosts. They are all very friendly and are truly appreciative of anything that you might bring them or give to them during your stay. In some cases, they will invite you to come to their home for dinner and to meet their families, please accept these invitations if they come to you. They are truly a warm and wonderful people that deserve more than what they are getting. The Maya Cayo Coco is a wonderful resort and it is in a pristine location. You can walk for miles along their wonderful beaches and enjoy the turquoise green water as far as the eye can see. The hotel suffered a huge loss during a hurricane at the end of the 2017 season but the Melia was rebuilt and when we visited in 2024, it was as good looking as it was originally We loved our stay at the Maya Cayo Coco both times and we would recommend this destination for anyone. Please keep in mind. This resort is more geared for couples and perhaps older couples. Not a lot to do there for the children and I’m pretty sure it’s adults only anyway. You will see kids on the beach but probably staying at other resorts.
