We booked the place because we liked the idea of having a simple civil wedding ceremony there, plus a dinner party. The location was beautiful and ideal, given that we could also offer the villa's extra bedrooms to our friends who came from abroad. The deal was to rent the place for four nights (Thursday-Monday), giving a 10% deposit upon agreement. The owner was helpful throughout the planning process.
The weather was pretty bad during our stay, and because of very strong winds we moved the large dining table on the covered terrace to the garden so we could have more space. We did this as we kept the villa locked during saturday's gathering, as we prefered everyone to stay outdoors, to keep he villa clean and tidy. Early next morning, the owner called us demanding that we move the table back to the terrace as it had started raining. (Her excuse of knowing where the table was, was that the entrance cameras notify her when it rains. This proved to be a lie, as later on she said that she was observing the cameras during all four days!) As the owner's husband later admitted, the table is waterproof, and indeed it looked perfectly fine when we moved it back in. She was simply seeking for reasons to overcharge us. From this point onwards, we experienced only rudeness and anger.
We left the villa in perfect condition, except for one minor damage: two toilet seats. One (a plastic one) broke in the guests' outdoors toilet during the gathering and the other, in one of the bedrooms' ensuites, went out when my friend sat on it because the connections were already very rusty. Even though this was minor damage, we were of course willing to pay for it. Things like this happen during events and are to be expected. Even more given the cheap quality of such items used in rental properties.
On the morning of our departure, the owner arrived ten minutes before the agreed time and came in with an utterly aggressive and invasive attitude, without even saying hello, storming in the rooms and toilets-which we were still entitled to use-to check them out, apparently. She started yelling at me, claiming we brought people we didn't know in the villa (?!), and that’s why there were "damages". She also claimed that "this is what happens when you don't hire waiters for your events"(who is she to decide if we had the budget or if we wanted to hire people for a small dinner party?!we arranged everything perfectly among us&our friends) She even dared to say that she “saw people coming and going on Saturday night til early in the morning” meaning she used the entrance cameras that are put there for safety reasons to spy on us, and that her son "happened" to pass by the house on Saturday night (there is nothing around, he wasn't just passing by) and saw "many cars parked outside". Our friends, that had booked hotel rooms in Lefkara village for the whole weekend, came by on Saturday night, when the weather was slightly better, to hang out some more, as we had food and drinks left from the previous night, when the event ended abruptly and super early due to stormy weather. We had rented the house, paid money for it, and we could have people over if we wanted to. We didn't disturb anyone or anything in the house. In summary, her problem was that she couldn't claim any more money from us, as there were no written rules or a signed contract (she wanted the whole rental sum paid in cash, to avoid taxes or Booking.com’s cut), although she wants to rent her villa also as a “party venue” and charge extra money for it.
We left very disturbed and shocked by the extremely inappropriate way the owner confronted us, ruining all the fun we had during the weekend, even with the bad weather. We were really disappointed that our wedding weekend ended up with yelling during check out and such a rude behavior from her part. So, if you rent the villa enjoy it, but beware of the owner, as she has no experience of the hospitality industry and she feels like she does you a favour by "letting you use her villa" as if you were random guests and not...
