I decided to review just two restaurants visited during our traveling in/around Brno, Czech ~ one good, one bad. Unfortunately, this review is bad. After cave visit, we stopped for lunch at the hotel/restaurant Skalni Mlyn at the main parking lot of the Punkva Caves.||It was a busy day at the caves, and parking area, but not many people in the restaurant. We set outside and ordered a simple lunch for two. The female waiter brought us meals but then disappeared for a while. I went inside to pay and waited for a while. Finally, one of the restaurant workers asked me, what I am waiting for and soon our waiter showed up. Since I was away from my table I told her what my order was, she punched a numbers and presented me a bill to pay. I started to laugh because inflated bill is the oldest trick in the book to take some extra money from clients. I knew approximate amount to be paid and a presented bill was like a few times larger. My laughing forced the waiter to punch the numbers again and she came with corrected amount. However, she took my money and didn’t bother to bring me a change. Since I wasn’t happy about waiter’s trick I didn’t want to leave any tips and I told her to give me my change. She ignored me and left! I gave it up, but my wife asked the man behind the bar for the change. He told her to go to the hotel reception. When we were leaving, he commented the situation in some nasty words. ||I don’t think people who read my opinion could avoid this restaurant, because it is a main source of food in the area. My hope is that a manager or owner of this place reads this and will make a proper adjustment so that the clients will not be subject to such bad practices...

My husband, parents and I were traveling around the Czech Rep. and another one of our stops was in the Moravian Karst area. We stayed at the Hotel Skalni Mlyn. It's not a fancy hotel but is clean, quiet at night and comfortable. It is a very touristy area, especially with Czech tourists. The area is bustling with people during the day, buses and tours all day. At night is a different story.... very quiet and no night life. There are caves in the area as well as hiking and biking trails brining that bring in a lot of tourists. When we checked-in we were told that our rooms were cancelled 1 days earlier. We don't know what had happen but reassured the staff member at the front desk that we did not cancel. We suspect it was the company that we booked through the internet that made the error. She was very professional and reinstated our reservations and checked us in. I don't recall if there was a ceiling fan but there was no A/C. Up in the mountains it is quite comfortable at night with the windows open so no worries. In the evening there really is only one restaurant in the area. It was good. We all enjoyed our food and the service was also good. During the day the restaurant and the couple of food stalls are quite busy so be prepared to wait for seats and service. Oh..they also have hair dryers at the front desk...no extra fee. I would absolutely stay again. Loved the area and the...

You can not find a better hotel to stay at when visiting the caverns of Moravian Karst. There is an info center in a building next to the hotel, where you pick up the tickets for the Punkevni cavern - we had reserved ours by phone a week earlier, they get sold out quickly! At another counter we bought return tickets to the little shuttle train and the cable car, the shuttle train stop is nearby and runs every 20 minutes up to the entrance to the main cavern.|The hotel receptionist was very sweet and helpful, my bad knees appreciated the rickety elevator to the second floor. We booked a studio with an amazingly huge bathtub, the room had a tiny seating area and a wooden wall with revolving TV separating the bed area from the rest of the room. We found the bed comfortable, with pristinely clean white linen, the pillows better than at most 3 star Czech hotels. The towels were perfectly clean and soft. A small fridge would be appreciated. The electric socket is hidden by the lightbulb in the bathroom mirror.|Check out time was 10 AM, we had plenty of time to have a lovely breakfast, there were many choices buffet style, the yogurt was amazing and the rolls nice and fresh.|I would not recommend the trout for dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, but that’s another review. Parking right outside the hotel was free. If I wanted to explore the area further, I would stay...

Positive: Location is one great plus since it is in the vicinity to the caves that everyone wants to visit. View from window was a view of forest and rocks. Receptionist was friendly. Friendly server for the time of dinner (blonde lady) was very friendly. Negative: Room that we had was not cleaned properly for a long time. Behind the desk there was bottle cap, hairclip and booking ticket for the hotel from other other guest that stayed over a month ago. I do not know how sombody managed this but there was hair on the bathroom wall near the ceiling. Green pillow ws stained from guests from the past. 66€ is way overpaid price for this room, but they know that they are in the vicinite of the cavaes so they squize out the guests. If you are a big berson there is no way you can take comfortable shower since they are tiny. Serving staff (man) in the kitchen (at breakfast time) has no will to be there. A group of guests was aperantly having a party with the staff infront of the hotel, since nobdy from the staff even tried to queit them down at midnight.

Perfect location for visiting the caves. The hotel offers a very good stay with a nice cozy clean room and nice bathroom. The breakfast is fine but could be improved with more fruits, more variety and better coffee. The restaurant offers tasty food; beware, it closes around 7pm, even when the door says 10pm!! The receptionist ladies were both very kind. None of it is cheap but the service overall is good and it's much worth it!

We only ate here, we didn’t stay at the hotel. The food is typical Czech (lots of meat), good price and good service. I had a goats cheese wrapped in ham salad. Had to take the ham off (I’m vegetarian) and would have much preferred it without. But the salad was good. This place gets very busy at lunchtime because it’s the only table service restaurant in the Macocha gorge area.
