I can't speak highly enough of this hotel, I absolutely loved it. The owners are proud of the work and renovations they have done to the building as it was extremely dilapidated (can see pics when checking in or on their website) and I don't blame them as its beautiful. It's a small hotel but the service is exceptional and even though English is not their first or second language, we had no issues communicating checking in or out. We stayed in room 302 as it is one of two rooms with a balcony and it was perfect. The bathroom was a good size and shape with a rain shower and complimentary shower gel, body lotion and soap (most hotels don't provide these anymore!). The bedroom was large with a sofa, storage for suitcases / clothes, TV, desk, fridge (which has got drinks in it but you have to pay for these separately), really comfortable bed and air-conditioning - the bonus was Netflix (although we didn't use it). The balcony was large with two seats, table and lounger for sunbathing. The breakfast room is separate to the restaurant and is a self-serve continental breakfast which is perfect to fill you up before going on one of the beautiful hikes surrounding the hotel (one literally starts at the hotel). There is also a restaurant which was such good value for money and some of the best food and wine I have tried. People who have been on hikes also stop at this restaurant for drinks and food afterwards. From what I can tell, one of the servers speaks really good English however the rest did struggle so we did a lot of pointing, smiling and got by absolutely fine. The area itself is beautiful and at night, the few street lights they have are turned off (we got a pic of the milky way!). Not linked to the hotel but there are also regular buses (bus stops directly in front of hotel) if you want to go a bit further out for a hike without taking your car. The hotel also has space for you to store your bikes, if you wish to bring them (and some buses have bike racks so you can again go...
Read morePerched in the majestic landscapes of North Czechia, just a stone's throw from the enchanting Bohemian Switzerland National Park, you'll find the welcoming edifice of Hotel Kortus. It's not a place that hides behind the frills of high society. Instead, it stands tall, unpretentious and proud, serving honest food that echoes the very spirit of the region.
Their beef goulash is a testament to this ethos. As quintessential to Czech cuisine as the rolling hills are to the country itself, the goulash at Hotel Kortus is a celebration of culinary tradition. It's a robust, home-cooked affair teeming with spice and a profound umami. Eating it feels akin to engaging with generations of culinary wisdom, the experience leaving your plates clean and your spirits invigorated. It's more than a meal; it's a way to refuel your body and soul after a day spent in the grandeur of Mother Nature.
And then, out of nowhere, comes the cheeseburger with fries. A surprise? Perhaps. But let me tell you, after a day of hiking through the mountains, the simple delight of this perfectly assembled burger is a salve to your hard-earned hunger. A juicy patty, cheese that melts to perfection, and fries that snap with a satisfying crunch. Every bite seems to whisper, 'you've traversed the trails, now savor the reward.'
In essence, Hotel Kortus is an unassuming hero of the culinary world. It eschews complex gastronomy for food that is humble yet masterful, straightforward yet satisfying. Nestled in the glory of North Czechia, it's a place where the journey of the hiker meets the journey of the food lover. This, my friends, is the beauty of...
Read morePerfect place for a holiday in the Bohemian Switzerland. |We stayed 3 nights and it was just perfect timing to go the wonderful sites and trek in the surroundings. The park is marvelous. Beyond our expectations. You have to be ready for some energetic trekking to the best sights but it is part of the fun. We were very lucky to have perfect weather so it adds o our positive review, but really the hotel is a gem. Rooms are brand new, bed is super comfortable, bathroom very practical, breakfast joy and everything quiet and in this wonderful surroundings. The parking is very practical. We eat in the hotel restaurant several times and in the one across the street also. Service incredible, food tasty, beer and cider marvelous. The prices were very reasonable for the hotel and the food (we hope they stay like this for our next visit). The staff in the reception gave us perfect tips for touring around, considering that some places have been sadly affected by the fire and the tourist information of the park does not even mention it. My wife discovered it by chance 2 days before our trip, but we did not want to cancel. But, the young ladies at the reception gave us perfect tips were to walk to the nicest spots. Veronika in the reception deserves a special mention, she was the sweetest most service like receptionist...
