We stayed in a two bedroomed apartment for three nights in May whilst attending the motor racing at the local circuit.||||Easily found in the centre of this old Eastern Bloc style town - it's the tallest building with a large sign. Parking was just about adequate considering the hotel was full.||||Reception staff were friendly and welcoming. Check in/out was efficient. ||||The apartment seemed to have been three rooms converted to provide the accommodation. Plenty of space, apart from the bathroom, which was rather compact. All areas very clean. The beds were very low level, with solid bases and very thin mattresses. I enjoy a firm bed, but not this one ! Anyone with a mobility problem will struggle to get down and up from them. The sitting/kitchen area was well equipped enough for self catering. No aircon, but the large windows opened to provide fresh air. ||||The bathroom was serviced daily, but not the bedrooms for some reason. Not a major problem.||||We made the mistake of trying to eat in the restaurant at 1930 on a Thursday evening. It appeared to have been a surprise to the management that the hotel was full due to the event above. We took a table in the bar area as the restaurant was full - not a problem, had a couple of beers and placed an order for goulash soup and a pork dish. After a two hour wait, with no information as to the delay the food was finally forthcoming. The soup was saltier that the Dead Sea, but by this time we were too hungry to complain. The Pork was dry and overcooked in breadcrumbs, with dry, old but warm chips. We were not alone, as the overwhelmed staff were besieged by complaining diners. It seemed that no one was in charge and the staff were just left to cope as best they could. Needless to say they'd had enough and were not at all happy.||Cheapness compared to elsewhere in Europe can't be used as an excuse.||||The next night we found a local Italian, and despite being full, received good quality and value food in a very reasonable time scale - it can be done !||||Some friends dined at the hotel the next night in the company of a local dignitary - good food and decent service prevailed. Obviously it's who you know in this restaurant !||||The breakfast buffets were good - but serviced by very sour faced staff (not the evening crew). ||||To sum up, decent enough rooms, but avoid the restaurant unless you are '...
Read moreI stayed at Cascade hotel for two nights. It is typical communist building, with that-time architecture. One has a feeling it all stayed original from times it was built. Seems they changed elevators, and repaint the walls every 10 years and that was it. It is not a good example of keeping old memories alive. Rather making the most money from what the worn out hotel can give. To start from the beginning. Doors to the room are wobbely, keylock loose, door handle loose. After you lock the doors they still are not firmly closed, but are locked. Inside all the sockets were loose and dangerous. Water tap was rusty and broken (seen on fotos). Bathroom door bent and beat up. Shower cabin door ripped out of the rails, hanging on upper wheels only. Wall paint stained, dirty and needed repainting long ago. TV set in a size of computer monitor. Torn fabric on a table seat. Beds were too narrow, too short for average guy like me. Am 177 cm high but bed was bit too short. Must have been 80x190cm small. Matraces were hard and uneven and worn out, pillows small and flat, blanket foo small. Food for breakfast was ok. The german Pensionist (obviously main guest at that time) enjoyed it fully. I particularly liked americano coffee from the machine. There was no gluten free bread available (didn‘ even bother to ask) so I took corn flakes. For dinner I ate steak from the menu. It was ok, nothing great about it tho. Fair. Parking is around the hotel. No garage. You’ll find cash machine in foyer. Staff was really friendly and helpfull. Very pleasant and polite people. But still wouldn‘t book this hotel again...
Read moreI came here on business and there are not a lot of options for hotels.||||The town appears to be quite modern but has been laid out well and the countryside around is really most attractive with unusual hills reminiscent of small, extinct volcanos.||||The hotel is located within an urban development with a shortage of car parking spaces. Check in was fast and friendly and and I took the elevator to the sixth floor. NOW THE SCARY BIT! Avoid the elevator on the right. There is a weak spot on the floor and when you tread on it the floor buckles with a loud bang and you drop down about 2cm (inch). I thought that the floor had given way for a brief moment.||The room was adequate with two separate, very narrow beds. I could feel the wooden bars through the mattress but as long as I layed flat and did not bounce around it was possible to get a comfortable sleep. The bathroom was small with a cheap shower and the water heated up after running for several minutes.||There was no aircon so i opened the window to cool down. In the morning i was eaten alive with mosquito bites. The WIFI worked well and was free.||Breakfast was acceptable with coffee, reconstituted fruit juice and a buffet with cold cuts, cheese, salad and scrambled egg & thin bacon. The bread was awful but the eggs were really nice.||||Overall this is not a good hotel but they have made the best of a quite...
